What are the concerns for the coming months on the record run that we have seen in s p and nasdaq . It has been breath taking, dagen. Thanks for having me. We have been bullish as you know and particularly so in the tech space but this feels a little bit reminiscent of late 90s in terms of some of the underlying valuations so i still think there are place that is you can find value. Concerns, of course, around unemployment. We got great pmi numbers but employment was still weak. We would like to see employment improvement to keep economy going. Dagen i think the expectation is for 1. 4 million jobs added, that would bring the number of jobs created in may, june, july and august to little more than 10 million, 10. 7 million thereabouts but that still doesnt make up even half the jobs lost in america, more than 22 million in february, march and april, so what kind of job recovery do you expect to see here, like to basically back up whats going on in the market, what kind of job recovery do you want to see . I would like to see us step back by 7 by the end of the year Unemployment Rate, i dont know that thats going to happen because we are starting to see Companies Announce or warn that theyre going to be playoffs like the airlines have said, you know, we are going to have to lay people off unless we get more government aid. Thats about 53,000 jobs, you saw mgm announce 18,000 jobs eliminated and and number of industries cocacola and even salesforce. Com announced early Retirement Plans, so i do think that we are in a stairstep recovery and we might be flatlining for a while on the jobs front and that is something i do worry about and i dont know that we will get to my target number of 7 . Dagen in terms of those layoffs, steve forbes, the Airlines Want more bailout money. They are essentially saying, hey, we wont lay these people out if you give us more bailout money and there lie it is role of government and additional stimulus. What do you think . Steve well, its no surprise that the airlines will need more money because still people arent flying again. You have a few but in terms of volume we had before covid, nothing near what they need and so those headlines are going to be there and i think one of the dangers, i would like to get nancys view on it, flatlining on unemployment that it doesnt look like it did few months ago. How does she think will affect the election which will affect the market. We know if democrats win the economy will be in deep trouble and if the republicans win we could still have a run but when the market going to price in even though trump is doing bitter in the polls, when is the market going to pump that ds could win and that could be a disaster . I do think Predictive Power of the market historically begins in august to end of october, insight of who the market expects the new president to be and bullish market is obviously better for incumbent so its difficult to tell with all of the liquidity in the system that if the market is responding to liquidity. We wrote a piece on july 15th where we thought the market had legs and we are up 10 , 60 off the bottom. So i dont know if we are getting the Predictive Power but i think the markets are pretty sanguine and the president has stepped in with the payroll tax cuts for workers and the additional supplement to unemployment through executive order as you well know. I think we are still seeing spending and if you go i was in florida last week, the mall was packed, packed. Dagen stores are packed around the country, nancy. Mitch, before we go nancy seems to be suggesting or not divided government, regardless of who is in the white house you have a backdrop in terms of fighting the virus and the economy and the need for stimulus that the money will keep pouring in or coming out of washington and that joe biden if elected in november wouldnt dare raise corporate taxes because that essentially takes money away from job creation and higher higher wages. Mitch yeah, dagen, i dont think that the market has priced in potential bidenharris policy and i think thats going to happen when debate happens and theres hopefully conversation around policy differences especially in what bidens tax plan would be because the market is hoping for growth in 2021 and if tax policy were curtail, the mark will react to think. This is unusual recession, margins at highest level than they have ever been. Same with Consumer Confidence oddly enough. And you just said it, the leadership of cities and states, really they have let citizenry down and you look look at metropolitan cities you will find Police Officers and morale terribly low and we need Police Officers to protect and serve various communities and thats a sad commentary. You know, let me just say to our audience, Police Officers dont get up white or black and put on a uniform and say we want to go out and kill somebody. That does not happen and we are now divideed unfortunately between white and black and white Police Officers are out there killing black people and they are purposely doing it. There are situations unfortunately that Police Officers cannot help themselves from being in and they have to take action to protect the community as well as themselves. Dagen i want to bring up this, theres a warning that gangs across chicago have made a pact to kill Police Officers. Shoot Police Officers on site if they have their weapon drawn on public, your reaction to this . Thats a sad state of affairs of where we are in the country right now. Theres no respect for Police Officers, chicago is out of control and i can tell you the president sent in about 100 agents not too long ago into chicago, thats not going to do anything in chicago. Its out of control city and in some states the national calls in there. Dagen thats part of operation legend where federal officers have come in in investigative capacity to help local Law Enforcement but in terms of gangs, if youre talking about a racketeering enterprise and organized enterprise that is trafficking guns, those are federal crimes and you can charge even murder and theres a role for the fbi and the feds to come in if they can prove that this is gang activity. Oh, absolutely, they need to come in in a ferocious manner into various cities because again without being redundant they are terribly out of control at this state and i think the federal bureau of investigation as well as some of the other federal agencies can be of some assistance there, dagen.
