Anglers say the future of a reservoir at a popular Whitehaven beauty spot is under threat because of silt pollution – and they have pointed the finger of blame at a housing developer. Haig Angling Club said they feared losing Mirehouse Ponds if silt from Story Homes’ Edgehill Park development continued to enter the water. Fish Legal, a legal group representing anglers, said construction on the site started before a plan to reduce environmental impacts was submitted to Copeland Council. A statement from the legal group claimed a construction environment management plan (CEMP), referred to extensively in the environmental statement produced by the developer and a condition of the development going ahead, “was never produced”.
