Fears over pollution at Mirehouse Ponds near Edgehill Park


Anglers say the future of a reservoir at a popular Whitehaven beauty spot is under threat because of silt pollution – and they have pointed the finger of blame at a housing developer.
Haig Angling Club said they feared losing Mirehouse Ponds if silt from Story Homes’ Edgehill Park development continued to enter the water.
Fish Legal, a legal group representing anglers, said construction on the site started before a plan to reduce environmental impacts was submitted to Copeland Council.
A statement from the legal group claimed a construction environment management plan (CEMP), referred to extensively in the environmental statement produced by the developer and a condition of the development going ahead, “was never produced”. ....

SCOTTISH ministers are contesting a judge s demand to reconsider a no-trawl scheme to protect Scotland s marine environment in a court battle that has already cost them £30,000.
Lady Poole made the ruling after ministers said that the revisiting the proposed pilot no-trawl scheme would serve no practical purpose .
