Indian River County firefighters went to the South County Water Treatment plant and to the Indian River Club golf course in south Indian River County at 800 Carolina Circle Southwest, both of which were covered with a grey haze shortly before 5 p.m. Ash could be seen floating into the area from the fire. Two Spanish Lakes residents said they were worried about their homes on Flores del Norte. “Got the hose right there,” said Gary Casper. He said that area had caught fire before, and pointed out dead blackened trees near his property line as proof. Nevarez said Florida Forest Service units, including a bulldozer, went to help the local fire departments, which had numerous engines and trucks at areas in both counties working to contain the fire.
