January 15, 2021 Published on January 06, 2021 More than 600 shelter cats and dogs were airlifted late last year from overcrowded animal shelters in Hawaii to the U.S. mainland. A chartered Hercules C-130 plane dubbed Paws Across the Pacific flew across the Hawaiian Islands on Oct. 28 picking up dogs and cats from shelters on Kauai, Oahu, and Maui. The following morning, the plane landed at Seattle’s Boeing Field, where the furry cargo was distributed among personnel from animal shelter and rescue groups in Washington state as well as Idaho, Montana, and Oregon. Greater Good Charities worked with Wings of Rescue to make the airlift possible. The airlift was conducted in collaboration with the Hawaii VMA to ensure the safety and health of pets on the flight.
