Former Jasper PD officer has died following Tyler County crash

KJAS News has confirmed that a Sabine County man, who was a former Jasper police officer, died in a Beaumont hospital following a Wednesday morning crash in Tyler County.
Forty-two-year-old Samuel Brister, of Pineland, was pronounced dead at St Elizabeth Hospital by Jefferson County Precinct 8 Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam, III..
According to DPS Sergeant Stephanie Davis, it happened at about 8:00 on U.S. Highway 287 just northwest of Woodville. Davis said Brister was driving northbound in a 2016 Dodge pickup truck when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle went off the highway and struck a tree.
The Woodville Fire Department was called to the scene with Jaws-of-Life when it was reported that the man was trapped in the vehicle.
