Kirbyville Police were busy early Tuesday evening after a vehicle and a bicycle collided. It happened at about 5:30 at the intersection of West Main and South Vallie Streets. Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister said a woman who lived nearby was riding a bicycle southbound on Vallie and rode out in front of a vehicle that was westbound on Main. Brister said the man driving the vehicle told officers that he slammed on the brakes and swerved, but he still hit the woman. Brister said she was being transported by ambulance to a hospital, but he didnât know the extent of her injuries. ....
KJAS News has confirmed that a Sabine County man, who was a former Jasper police officer, died in a Beaumont hospital following a Wednesday morning crash in Tyler County. Forty-two-year-old Samuel Brister, of Pineland, was pronounced dead at St Elizabeth Hospital by Jefferson County Precinct 8 Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam, III.. According to DPS Sergeant Stephanie Davis, it happened at about 8:00 on U.S. Highway 287 just northwest of Woodville. Davis said Brister was driving northbound in a 2016 Dodge pickup truck when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle went off the highway and struck a tree. The Woodville Fire Department was called to the scene with Jaws-of-Life when it was reported that the man was trapped in the vehicle. ....
Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister said Tuesday that the investigation into a recent store robbery is continuing, but so far there have been no leads in the case. It happened shortly before 10:00 on the night of Thursday, May 13th at the Citgo convenience store on the northeast corner of Highway 96 and East Main Street. According to Brister, a white male brandishing a knife robbed the clerk and then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. The clerk was not injured. ....
Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister announced Tuesday that the department has closed an investigation and no criminal charges will be filed in relation to allegations of over disciplining by coaches at Kirbyville High School. It began in mid-March when a parent alleged that coaches - one in particular â were abusing student-athletes in the weight room. The parent noted that the alleged abuse was not discipline for improper behavior, but rather punishment for not being able to lift enough weight or improperly lifting weight. In a prepared statement, Brister wrote âAfter a lengthy investigation into the report of injury to a child, stemming from a complainant against personnel within the Kirbyville Consolidated Independent School District, it has been determined after close contact and conversations between the Kirbyville Police Department, the Jasper County District Attorneyâs Office, and the parents of the victim, that no criminal charges will be filed and ....
