Former Jasper PD officer has died following Tyler County crash


KJAS News has confirmed that a Sabine County man, who was a former Jasper police officer, died in a Beaumont hospital following a Wednesday morning crash in Tyler County.
Forty-two-year-old Samuel Brister, of Pineland, was pronounced dead at St Elizabeth Hospital by Jefferson County Precinct 8 Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam, III..
According to DPS Sergeant Stephanie Davis, it happened at about 8:00 on U.S. Highway 287 just northwest of Woodville. Davis said Brister was driving northbound in a 2016 Dodge pickup truck when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle went off the highway and struck a tree.
The Woodville Fire Department was called to the scene with Jaws-of-Life when it was reported that the man was trapped in the vehicle. ....

Hardin County public official has died following a major accident


The Silsbee Bee is reporting that a Hardin County public official has died following a Wednesday accident that occurred during the noon hour on State Highway 326, southwest of Kountze.
According to Sergeant Stephanie Davis with the Texas Department of Public Safety, 69-year-old Lynda Davis was driving a 2016 Nissan passenger vehicle when she stopped as directed by a flagman at a construction zone.
However, Davis said another driver, 44-year-old Nancy Juarez, of Houston, failed to stop her 2019 Dodge van and slammed into the back of Davis’ car.
Davis was flown from the scene to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where she died the same day. ....

Two injured in weekend UTV crash


At least two people were injured in a weekend UTV accident near Kirbyville, and the Texas Department of Public Safety says a teenager operating the vehicle at an unsafe speed was the cause of the crash. It happened shortly before 6:00 Saturday evening about 6 miles southwest of Kirbyville.
Sergeant Stephanie Davis said 15-year-old Skyler Russell, of Silsbee, was driving the 2020 Polaris side-by-side southbound on County Road 701 near County Road 544 when the vehicle went off the road and landed in a ditch.
DPS said the teenager had seven passengers onboard, one of whom was a 10-year-old girl that was transported to an area hospital by private vehicle. Russell was treated at the scene for minor injuries, and there was no word on injuries for the remaining six passengers, ranging in age from 8 to 30. ....

Evadale resident died in Hardin County crash


The Texas Department of Public Safety says an Evadale resident died in a weekend accident in nearby Hardin County. It happened at about 9:00 Saturday morning at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 92 & 1122, about 4 miles north of Silsbee.
According to Sergeant Stephanie Davis, 29-year-old Shelby Smith was driving a 2019 Kia Forte at an unsafe speed eastbound on FM 1122. Davis said as the car approached the intersection, Smith lost control.
The car struck a culvert, went airborne, and then crashed into two parked vehicles and a building, according to Davis.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by Hardin County Justice of the Peace Melissa Minton. ....
