KNBN NewsCenter1 February 4, 2021 HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. — Former Rapid City Police Lieutenant Michael Boutte was killed in the line of duty on Monday. Boutte, who was a Deputy Lieutenant for the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi, previously served the citizens of Rapid City from 1992 to 1996. He and another officer responded to a disturbance call in the Necaise community in Louisiana, where they were met with gunfire. According to Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam, Boutte was shot in the face and head and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in New Orleans. Charges are expected to be filed against the suspect who shot and killed Boutte, including capital murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation later identified the suspect as Joseph Michael Rohrbacker.
