Mike the Helicopter Crash that killed two National Guard soldiers and one Border Patrol agent is now under investigation. The helicopter carrying four people went down over a borderty near the rio grande on friday. Jeff paul is live in eagle pass, texas, with the latest on the investigation. Hello, jeff. Reporter hey, mike. Yeah, the u. S. Military is still trying to figure out exactly what went wrong that caused that helicopter to crash during its mission here along the u. S. Mexico border. And while that investigation is ongoing, we are starting to learn more about the people who were onboard. Officials now confirming the names of the three who were killed. 30yearold casey frankowski, 28yearold john grassia, and u. S. Border patrol agent a chris luna. A fourth person was onboard, a National Guard soldier who was seriously injured. The team was conducting a federal border operation in the Rio Grande Valley on friday. The Border Patrol union says they were on routine patrol tracking some people who had possibly crossed into the u. S. Thats when the aircraft experienced some type of mechanical difficulty and went down hard. Former a acting i. C. E. Director tom homan says these types of air missions with both national forward and Border Patrol are fairly common and incredibly important. Because theres not a lot of resources this. Boots on the ground, its a big area. The best way to cover it is by air. The National Guard, you know, they can operate the helicopter, but the borderer patrol agent knows the lay of the land. Our cameras captured this group of roughly 40 people who crossed the rio grande, some carrying very small children. One National Guard member with the state of texas told the us it looks like theyre entering Peak Crossing season. Right now the river levels are at some of the lowest they have been over the past few months, and the weather isnt too hot. I agree with tom homan, those flights and the type of capability that they give us is absolutely critical. So not only have they done those in the past, but i assume theyll continue those types of operations as that border is very difficult to patrol. But, look, the crisis is ongoing. And and as you anticipated, were coming upon the spring season. Those numbers and the illegal apprehensions start to surge. And theyll start to surge because theres not a policy in place down along that border that is deterring the illegal behavior. Mike President Bidens taking some pushback for the way he refers to the alleged murder of Nursing Student laken riley. Lets play it. [inaudible conversations] lincoln, lincoln riley. The term illegal alien has been used by the supreme court. It actually defines what an alien is when they cross into the country illegally. So this idea that its somehow if derogatory, its not, its in law. Its how courts have been referred to, its how the department, dhs still refers to them as illegal aliens in court proceedings. So the term is not derogatory, its just an acceptable term. But what the left is try thing to do is obviously trying to do is obviously shift the focus to undocumented or they actually used newcomer here recently as well. How devastating are those numbers . Well, the numbers are extremely devastating, and thats just perhaps if one sector. As you look across that border, the pacifickers traffickers and smugglers understand how the Border Patrol starts Enforcement Actions so that when they see the state of texas and Governor Abbott taking action in eagle pass and del rio and different other places along that border, heir going to shift to places like new mexico, arizona and california. Which is what you see today. Because theres no National Guard there, theres no razor is wire there, theres no Enforcement Actions other than the Border Patrol whos being severely limited by this administration. Theres no Enforcement Action going on there. So i suspect that youll continue to see the surge in places like california and arizona continue. Mike are you surprise President Biden doesnt announce Executive Action didnt announce Executive Action at the state of the union this week . If. I am. It was a missed opportunity to talk to the American People and say, look, we dont have any movement in congress, so im going to take my if authority as the president , and im going to direct the Dhs Secretary to take the following actions. He has that ability today. He can take a dozen different actions told if he chose to. The state of the union was a prime example and a prime opportunity to talk to the measure people about what he is the American People about what he is going to do. Instead it was shifting blame to republicans and congress. We know congress isnt quick to do much of anything, so he can take action and a missed opportunity, certainly. Both my parents are immigrants to this country, so is i do find the former president s language troubling when you talk about people that have imgreated to the United States to achieve the american dream. What you see happening in congress, right, is this democrats and republicans came together to pass the most conservative, bipartisan Immigration Bill that weve seen since in 1980s, right . It got to the United States house where it fell on deaf ears. Now, yes, it is true what the former Homeland Security secretary said that theres 12 possible Executive Actions that could be, that the president could sign today. But if you take if you are rewind the clock to the trump administration, many of the Executive Actions that President Trump signed were blocked in the court which is why the Biden Administration doesnt want to do that. They want to codify Immigration Law in the law so that the it can cannot be blocked and be mired down with court proceeding. Whos standing in the way of that . House republicans who say they want stronger Immigration Laws, but there is a stronger Immigration Law. The bill passed by the United States are senate which House Members will not take up. Biden benefited in the 2020 election by being just normal, right in this is the kind of stuff people get upset about when youre doing language policing, walking away from the rhetoric most americans see as pretty normal. So him being unable to say illegal and is worried about undocumented, all that kind of stuff, that a sends the vibe to the American People that hes not the craneton joe that ran as the voice of normalcy and the voice of regular anemia 2020. Thats why he won the primary in the first place, because they were looking at leftwingers like Bernie Sanders and elizabeth warren, and they saw him as the guy who was going to make things normal, deal with the chaos, and right now it looks like hes embracing those folks and getting into their rhetoric to win them over heading into the 24 election.
