The northern portion of florida under Evacuation Orders, experts are predicting right pow this could strengthen to a category 4 hurricane before making Land Fall in the Sunshine State. The 2 00 p. M. Advisory 110 mile per hour winds, Movement North Northeast at 16, Big Pressure is building right now. Were going to take you right now over to the Fox Weather studio. Weve got an update on this potential for life threatening Storm Surge. You heard the warnings earlier. Some of the words being thrown around by officials down there in florida calling this catastrophic and in some cases surgeon viveable. So as we make our Way Hour to hour we want to get an update from the Fox Weather Center. Were going to walk over to the studio right next to us where Kendall Smith is giving an update on the Fox Weather channel. Were going to dip in here and get the update from her. Hey kendall, thank you so much for having us. Thank you for being with us. Give us an update. We were just telling our viewers that this is building in strength. What do we anticipate as far as timing when this will make Land Fall . Well, this is an extremely impactful and very devastating hurricane marching its way toward the big Bend Region of florida as we speak. Were looking at the latest advisory as of 2 00 p. M. From the national Hurricane Center and we are just shy of a major hurricane. What i mean by that and sandra is that we have sustained winds 110 miles per hour. Once we reach sustained winds of 111 miles an hour thats classified as a cat 3 storm. Sandra so were right there about to change. Uhhuh. Sandra this is obviously the update were getting at 2 00 what does the next hour or so look like here. The next hour or so were anticipating it to strengthen moving to the North Northeast at about 16 miles per Hour And Weve watched as its really increased in that forward movement. Why thats important is that its continuing to really increase in its strength, its size. This is a massive storm. Sandra look at this. This is heoh, we just lost it there. When you look at the size of florida there and the size of the storm, its no wonder some of the officials are describing this, if you stay and dont abide by those Evacuation Orders theyre saying this could be unsurvivable for some of the folks. Exactly right 16 florida counties under right now mandatory Evacuation Orders and the size of this storm, we are talking about tropical Storm Force winds sandra that extend outward from the center 345 miles. So that fully emerses the entire state of florida. Then as you can see the Hurricane Force winds, this is impressive 60 miles out from the center. So why this is considered unsurvivable is the fact that we could see Storm Surge right along the Big Bend of Florida Southeast Tallahassee anywhere between 1520 feet above normally dry ground. And so when you think about that, 15 to as much as 20 feet, heres cedar key, the Nature Coast, this is going to be survivable for folks that have not heeded those warnings, those Evacuation Orders, and thats why if this System Roars ashore as a strong category 3 maybe even a cat 4 storm later tonight this could be one of the strongest storms to make Land Fall in this region in 150 Years Iuwhat can you tell us about some of the Storm Surges, those are some of the biggest warnings were hearing now from officials. Storm surge is the most deadly and dangerous aspect of any sort of landfalling tropical system so when you think about we have that counterclockwise rotation what that means is its pushing all that Water Inland and i like to consider the big Bend Region as a catchers mitt baseball, nowhere else for it to go it catches that water. A lot of the homes, theyre Lift Order stilts but this could mean water into the first floor of homes lifted. Sandra when you consider some of the rural areas in the panhandle and some folks we know people with family in the building, they had to get out of there. This is happening fast.
