FOXNEWS FOX and Friends October 2, 2024

Overnight, right now, thousands of Dock Workers walking off the job in an historic Port Strike affecting shipping along the East Coast. Were going to take you to the picket line. Brian and another alert. You are looking live at beirut as israel has officially begun its Ground Offensive against hezbollah. They are in the tunnels. Steve and a Fox Weather alert. At least 128 deaths after helene ripped through small towns, destroying entire neighborhoods. Samaritans Purse President Franklin Graham is going to join us. He had a Relief Visit to Georgia Yesterday alongside the former president. Franklin is with us coming up. Lawrence the second hour of Fox Friends starts right now. Ainsley a Fox News Alert. Tens of thousands of Port Workers walking in the picket line, walking off the job after failing to reach a deal effectively shutting down major ports along our East Coast. Steve yep. You are looking live. I believe thats the port of bay i dont know. Lauren simonetti tells us where things stand. Its a stand still. That is elizabeth new jersey. Talking dozens of ports and nearly 50,000 unionized Dock Workers from Nationwide Arena texas started walking off the job at midnight just as their contract with the ports expired. Their employers represented by the u. S. Maritime alliance say they proposed a nearly 50 Percent Wage Increase to the international long shoremans association. In addition to a boost in their Healthcare Benefit and their Retirement Plan contributions. It was reject rejected by union leadership. Dock workers are striking over fears that O Automation could eventually lead to dramatic job loss. They are demanding a total ban on automated cranes, gates and container trucks used to move the freight. The ports shutting down are responsible for half of all u. S. Imports and billions of dollars in trade a month. This is massive. Products will not be able to be either imported or exported during this strike. That includes chemicals, iron, steel, medical equipment, furniture, vehicles, machinery, j. P. Morgan predicts this strike could cost the economy 45 Billion plus a day. Obviously it could cost us already, guys, its just a couple of hours, but the owner of a company that says asparagus to the supermarkets, he told the Wall Street Journal that he has increased prices by 50 cents a pound because he is flying in the vegetable instead and that Air Rate is four times his typical ocean delivery rate. Now some of that Ocean Drivery already suck new Jerseys Port Director told Fox Business that ship ships have anchored offshore after failing to make it to the port before it shut down that, number guys expected to reach 35 if this strike extends over a week. As for the White House this morning. They say President Biden and Vice President harris are closely monitoring the strike. The Teamsters Union is telling them stay out of this fight, guys, they are using much cruder language to send that message. But thats the message, here we are another strike. Steve another strike, indeed. Thank you very much. Brian Ripple Effect is going to be everywhere you see and to find out how long this thing is going to last is going to be key. I just cant believe how much has been given up already. Usually talking 10 or 15 . Were at 50 right now Wage Increases. Im not saying its an easy be jo. One thing that doesnt sound right, unless i can be educated on it. When you say i have to insulate my workers from Technology And Innovation and automation and the future. Lawrence they say none . Steve none. Brian every job has changed. Our business has changed because of it. Ainsley its already on the West Coast. Lawrence every single industry have got to admit. Its scary for a lot of people. You dont just to get to walk off the job and then number two say, you Cant Advance Technology at all it. Seems like a nonstarter. Brian how are you going to get to work, by horse . Ainsley especially when you see what is happening on the West Coast and successful out there. Because ever automation and in europe its increased productivity and wages and even increased employees. Steve this all comes down the Technology Question is all because down in alabama, at a port in alabama, there is a gate and the union realized thatted when trucks went into this Georgia Tech Gate there was automation there. They said that is in violation ever our contract. So that became their al employee. We cant let what is happenings in alabama through that single gate happen in other places because had will cost jobs. We had Chris Spear on a little while ago, he is the president the american trucking association, and he says that a lot of those people that you are looking at right there most of them are making over 100,000 a year, at Love Crane operators make over 300,000 a year. They want a 77 raise, and that is pure greed, mr. Spear says. This is the worst time to have 36 ports shut down our economy. So, if youre really, you know, looking out for regular americans, look out for the people that are digging out their communities in North Carolina, not looking at the wealthiest Pay Package that any union in the country has. We have heard about corporate greed. This is union greed. Just to illustrate what greed really is here, youve got six Figure Salaries in this union. You have got workers, including Crane Operators has been over 300,000. Now 77 pay increase, they are over half A Million dollars. If you are that person down the southeast digging their community out of the put, you really think they care about Somebody Whining about getting 500,000 a year . Brian the administration is asking chief of staff Jeff Zients nfc director to convene. Board directors urged to them resolve it clearly and fairly. Might help the Transportation Secretary Stop drilling Governor Walz about his debate and did his job. Maybe stop playing j. D. Vance for a while and play the role of V Ption Secretary that, will be a novel concept. Lawrence they want the job but dont want to do the job. All their energy there. Ainsley talking about bananas, meat, auto parts, furniture. Effects walmart, ikea, home depot. Batteries are effected. Almost everything. Steve 75 percent of americas bananas come through those ports. Go to your Grocery Store and stock up. We dont know how long. Brian can we recommend green bananas this way they will slowly ripen. Now go to Lydia Hu who is live at the Port Of Newark and new jersey, lydia . Good morning there, guys. What you see behind me is this strike underway here at the Port Of New York and fugitive. And this is really an historic moment, because this is the first time that east Coast Port workers have taken to the Picket Lines in 47 years. And there was really a lot of pressure coming from the White House and in the final Hours Yesterday and over the weekend to try to avoid this strike here, shutting down container ports from the East Coast through the gulf coast. The group representing the employers actually made an Offer Yesterday to the union to increase wages by 50 . They offered to triple the employer contributions to Employee Benefits and keep the current protections on automation for the workers. The union rejected that offer, and so here they are, taking to the Picket Lines in a strike. The president of this powerful union that is behind this strike, the international long shore mans association, harold daggettt. He was here listen to this. The offer that we had didnt work out. I told them so long, goodbye. Im going with my members. We are always willing to sit down when the right numbers hit. They know what the number is. So, apparently that number is not a 50 Wage Increase and that sure does sound like an astronomical raise. I have been speaking to the members here on the ground. And they tell me they feel like they deserve it. They kept the Supply Chain moving at some of the hardest and darkest periods during covid, losing some of their own members to the elements when they couldnt stay at home. And they feel like they have earned it. When the shrink companies are making a lot of money as there is such tremendous demand for these container that are bringing goods into our country and exporting american goods to other countries around the world. This is the first day, tremendous impact to the economy. We are going to follow it all day be back with live reports. Back to you guys. Lawrence real quickly, like normally you see these negotiations back and for the. You get the impression that its the union bosses going back with the big business. Okay . Going back but you are saying even the rank and fire, they feel the same way. Its not just the union bosses right now. Correct. The Rank And File feels like they deserve more. Even my communication with the members here. They are putting a lot of faith in harold daggettt. He has led this union. This is his fourth four year term. He has led this union for quite some time. And he is actually i just heard, going to be here within the next 10 to 15 minutes. We are really hoping to get a chance to talk to him while he is here and i have more information for you. Steve lydia, thank you very much. Port of newark right across the river from where we sit. Ainsley hard to believe they said no to fifth pay increase. Steve receive in robots. Lawrence what could go wrong. 128 people confirmed dead across six states due to helene and many people still missing. Nearly, get, this 2 Million homes and businesses still without power throughout the southeast and manns and hundreds of roads remain closed. Brian get the sense we havent seen all the destruction yet. Fox Weather Correspondent Robert ray in hard hit asheville, North Carolina. Robert . Good morning to you and everyone. We can break down these numbers all we want. But here is the issue. This is about Human Beings at this point. The aid and the help that they need across Western North Carolina. There are so many communities in peril right now that have not been able to get use because of the lack of Cell Phone Service and power outages. Look at this video from Spruce Pine that, is a community that has been Cut Off. And we visited there Yesterday Evening to try and bring the visuals and show whats happening outside of asheville, its not just asheville that has been disseminated and people going through these issues. There are so many people that are still missing, Hundreds Unaccounted for because they cannot communicated. There are at least 128 people that have lost their lives across multiple states. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. And that is what were dealing with here as The Sun is about to come up. Asheville in the arts district, dessem maded. You see vehicles that are turned on top of Each Other from the rushing water. It looks like tornado damage, but it is not. It is from nearly 3 feet of rain that fell over the course of a few days and overflowed the rivers and creeks. A State Of Emergency is in play right now four days after impact here. Hurricane helene hit the Florida Coast Line on Thursday Night yet we sit here in Dire Straits in North Carolina. Elected officials are moving around. There are many aid groups. But its not happening fast enough, unfortunately for those Cut Off from society right now. We hope all of that turns for the better in the coming hours. Not the days but the coming hours, guys. Back to you. Steve indeed, robert. Thank you very much for the report. Ainsley such an important story to cover. Affecting some of our viewers lives. Families affected by Hurricane Helene urgently need support. So you can help the Red Cross provide meals and shelter to their families or to all of these families, donate today to Hurricane Helene recovery efforts by going to Red Cross. Org fox forward or by scanning that Qr Code there on your screen. Steve thats right. Lets talk a little bit about how the Western half of the North Carolina is you have seen the images, its terrible. The question is the election is 3 days from today. And they will have an election. But they dont know how its going to work exactly. Because Election Offices in the West. 146 them, are closed. They are unsure when they are going to open. There are over half A Million registered voters in those 11 counties. 145,000 democrats. 185,000 republicans. The Storm Hit after the Absentee Ballots were put in the mail, remember, no service in all of Western North Carolina, they would have gone out earlier, but r. F. K. Had sued and so they had to reprinted them. The question is where are those ballots . Are they in Post Offices that swept away . We dont know. Also, one of the problems is early voting in North Carolina starts on october 17th. They dont know exactly where to have the places. They will have an election. The question is will it be on Elections Day and how will it. Brian its october 1st. We have a month and a half. Steve tell you what the local officials worry about. If there is a problem, this is going to be something people will debate. Well, you know, they didnt count my ballot or i mailed it and it probably got swept away. Brian bigger Question Guy Joe Biden take the weekend off. On the phone all day. On the phone two hours. Gets mad at people asking questions. Why does Kamala Harris go to Washington Fema Office and not take any questions are a. How dare she not take any questions . This is a chance to shine, show some leadership. So he that you have a handle on thization. Joe biden is going to go tomorrow, i guess but he seems to have under estimated the impact on in North Carolina and to be honest it, looks likes governor under estimated the impact on North Carolina, the Western part of the state and talking to somebody his name in studio yesterday, and my Radio Studio he says im from there im telling you the numbers are way low right now. You are not even near at love these places because they are hidden in the how abouts. Lawrence ainsley, you are from the area. Im curious what the residents are saying. They dont look prepared at all and they keep saying, you know, they didnt know. Thats not true. We had forecasters on. There was forecasters in the local area that were saying the same thing that it could happen to them, a young lady on yesterday, and she said look, we were warned about this happening, but it doesnt seem like the leadership was prepared. Ainsley the problem is we expect when you live in South Carolina or North Carolina on the coastal towns we have seen that time and time again. When you live in these small towns. Most people arent going to leave their houses because they are 100, 200 miles away from the ocean. They just dont think its going to blood. And you dont know where its going to blood. It could have flooded this time its Western North Carolina, it could have been the middle of South Carolina. Lawrence i dont mean the people, ainsley. I mean the leadership doesnt seem like they were prepared to have those Line Workers in place. Ainsley its a natural disaster. Steve right. There will be time to have plenty of Finger Pointing but right now somebody we all work with, her family is from that area that was completely devastated and i was talking to her yesterday. And she said look, heres the thing, everything is gone. The Grocery Stores are gone. There is no baby formula. There is no water. Theres no anything. One of the things she told. Brian and the president was at the beach. Lawrence thats exactly right. Steve one of the things she told me Cell Phones, if you have a newer iphone you can actually make it a Satellite Phone where you can text people. Apparently that has saved lives already in portions of North Carolina. Ainsley its black mountain, its montreat, its asheville, North Carolina, all those areas. Thankfully the kids arent in camp because they are all in school. All those camps in North Carolina, hundreds of people go to these camps from all over the country, but we were checking in with our Camp Yesterday to see how it was going, a lot of the moms were. But, yeah, they just need help and Samaritans Purse has been great as well. We saw Franklin Graham with Donald Trump. He is going to be on our show at The End of the show. Christian organization they give a lot of supplies. Trump was in Georgia Yesterday. He was. He did start a go fund me page. Steve over A Million bucks. Lawrence Ron Desantis is sending resources to help outside at well. Ainsley Ohio Governor j. D. Vance and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will meet here tonight for the Vice President ial debate. Brian Bryan Llenas is live at the Cbs Center in manhattan, bryan . Bryan brian, good morning. Gamesmanship. Trying to lower exceptions seemingly for their respective candidate. The Trump Campaign says ohio senator j. D. Vance is prepared for tonight but at the same time they are also acknowledging that his opponent, governor Tim Walz is, quote a very good debarrett. Tim walz is a political veteran. He has run countless campaigns. Really its two years an official politics for j. D. Vance bu
