France postpones closure of oldest nuclear reactors for 10 years
Paris, Feb 25 (Prensa Latina) The French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) on Thursday announced the extension for 10 years of the useful life of the reactors of the oldest nuclear power plants in the country, initially designed to operate for 40 years.
This measure refers to 32 900-megawatt reactors, which were due to be shut down last year and for which the company that manages them, Electricité de France (EDF), requested permission to continue to keep them in operation.
On December 3, 2020, ASN demanded a series of additional tests and studies to be carried out by the electricity operator to obtain the final green light, including crucial points for nuclear safety and technical requirements to be applied.
