Mix in a global pandemic and it can be downright frustrating. Cooper said because of an error in tracking inmates with COVID-19, he was told 52 of the jail's 98 inmates had tested positive. However, that number was actually four or five inmates who were being counted as new cases every day. In addition, about four jail staff members tested positive and were quarantined, but all have recovered and are back at work. Cooper said his department and the Fremont County Commissioners opted to contract with a new medical provider — Turn Key Health — after the current medical provider NatCore was unable to keep up with the demand of staffing the jail during the coronavirus pandemic.
