Gov. Tim Walz has called on the guard for help at an unrelenting pace this year, including the largest domestic deployment in the guard’s history after the death of George Floyd last May. And as 5 INVESTIGATES first reported on Wednesday night, the guard is now preparing for another potentially massive deployment early next year in anticipation of civil unrest during the trial of the four Minneapolis Police Officers charged in connection to Floyd’s death.
