A federal grand jury indictment was issued for Chauvin, Tou Thao, Alexander Keung and Thomas Lane.
Prosecutors say Floyd’s arrest “violated Mister Floyd’s constitutional right to be free from the use of unreasonable force by a police officer.”
It also says Thao and Keung failed to intervene, and all four officers saw Floyd needed medical care but willfully failed to aid him.
Thao, Keung and Lane have a state trial in August and remain free on bond.
