Georgia's health department tallied 5,890 confirmed COVID-19 cases in its daily afternoon report. Added to the slightly less reliable 2,174 antigen-positive — which most other states include in their total — Georgia reported more than 8,000 new coronavirus infections. The state's highest one-day total of new COVID-19 cases — not including antigen-positive test — is 6,115, set on Dec. 10.
