VICTORIA The current wave of interest in climate change, food security and health is starting to open up new possibilities here in B.C. There are signs that the steady urbanization of our society may be reaching its limits, as people pay unheard-of gasoline prices for the privilege of sitting in traffic jams. Health warnings on imported spinach and other vegetables are the latest reminder that we are squandering our natural wealth, eating California veggies while much of our arable land grows suburban lawns. Land use is starting to change in urban areas. Not for much longer will people expect the best of both worlds, a big back yard and a mall five minutes away as the SUV flies.
