Good Shepherd Food Bank has awarded $1.5 million to 417 groups it works with statewide, including food pantries and shelter programs, the Auburn-based nonprofit announced Tuesday. About $1 million went to 276 food pantries, meal sites and shelter programs, while $123,370 was distributed to 31 health care partners and $280,000 to 110 school programs and after-school partners. Grant awards were determined based on the number of people served and their program types. Awards ranged from $500 to $20,230, with an average grant amount of $3,570. Funds were awarded in all 16 Maine counties through the Good Shepherd's Capacity Building Grant program, which to help partners meet community needs and transform food access.
