Sea turtle release on Longboat Key January 14, 2021 Connor crawls into the ocean Connor, an adult male loggerhead sea turtle, returned to the Gulf of Mexico after several months of recovery at Mote's Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital, but not before he received some very special "jewelry" for his journey—a satellite tag that will allow Mote scientists to continue to track Connor's whereabouts. Rescue & Recovery: On September 6, 2020, Longboat Key Police Department officer Joshua Connors responded to a floating sea turtle in a Longboat Key residential canal. Mote's Stranding Investigations Program arrived and picked up the adult male loggerhead sea turtle and brought him to Mote's Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital. The turtle was named Connor after the police officer.
