The Scottish-born, L.A.-based artist died in Athens, Greece, after a “terrible accident,” her record label Transgressive said in a statement. “True to her spirituality she had climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be here with us. The family thank everyone for their love and support and request privacy at this devastating time,” the label said. SOPHIE, also known as Sophie Xeon, was an avant garde pop/EDM musician who received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album for her 2018 debut album, “Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides.” E! News reports she was the first transgender artist to be nominated in that category at the Grammys. She also wrote and produced songs for artists like Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Charli XCX, Kim Petras and Vince Staples.
