Guest column: Thanks for making The Players Championship a success Your turn Today we recognize National Golf Day, an observance that celebrates golf’s economic and charitable impacts on communities, totaling more than $84 billion and nearly $4 billion, respectively. As PGA Tour’s flagship event, The Players Championship is reflecting on the overwhelming support it receives from the Northeast Florida community that drives its success and contributions. These past two years have been unlike any other in the more than 40-year history of our championship. Yet, fans and partners, alike, have continued to demonstrate how sports can unify and inspire with their understanding, respect and support of new practices, protocols, and priorities. Local businesses partnered with us to find creative ways to engage fans despite on-site adjustments and reduced capacities. Health professionals contributed to the development of safety plans carefully executed by staff and dedicated volunteers. Government and law enforcement leaders provided guidance and resources needed to ensure successful implementation. Our Proud Partners, Grant Thornton, Optum, and Morgan Stanley, and corporate sponsors maintained their strong commitment to our mission of engaging, inspiring, and positively impacting communities.
