Adam Loker, recent Wayne City High School graduate and member of the Wayne City FFA Chapter, was elected State FFA President yesterday at the State FFA Convention. He was Section 23 President this past year and graduated as a co-valedictorian from Wayne City in May. Per ilaged.org, he is the first major state officer from Wayne City in the current FFA structure. The Wayne County Board met last night and heard from County Highway Engineer Dennis Seidel, who said a team from IDOT had concluded a site visit at the intersection of Enterprise Road and Route 161. He believes they will recommend a four-way stop with a hanging-pendulum style stop light, and he anticipates a detailed report from IDOT in the near future. Former State Senator Paul Schimpf is one of three announced Republican candidates for governor, and he says he will back to the best of his ability whichever candidate wins that primary should he lose. However, he does believe he is the best choice to unite a "fractured" party because of his proven conservative voting record and amicability with everyone in the party. Illinois moves into Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan today, signifying a full reopening of the state, with all sectors of the economy, businesses, schools, and recreation resuming normal operations- with new safety guidance and procedures. Conventions, festivals, and other large events can take place with no state-set capacity limits. The state Department of Public Health announced 366 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday and 17 additional deaths. No new cases were reported in Wayne County. Statewide totals sat at 1,386,628 cases and 23,014 deaths. The Southern Region had a positivity rate of 1.3 percent on June 7th, up from 1.2 percent on the 6th. River stages as of early this morning: the Little Wabash east of Fairfield stands at 20.31 feet, above the 17 ft. flood stage. Meanwhile, the Skillet Fork at Wayne City has a reading of 5.94 feet (flood stage is 15 ft.). The Little Wabash below Clay City is at 6.68 feet (flood stage is 18 ft.). Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 10.11 feet, and the Little Wabash at Main Street in Carmi reads 20.24 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel sits at 9.48 feet.
