Article content Much of the pandemic news is anxiety-provoking — new viral variants, fewer vaccine doses — but we are also hearing stories that personal finances are at an all-time high. The contrast in narratives has our attention, and we took some time to investigate. We asked British Columbians if they were financially prepared for a crisis. Seven in 10 (68 per cent) told us they have an emergency savings fund, and half (48 per cent) said they have the recommended amounts (enough to cover expenses for three months of living). It’s encouraging, no doubt, that these results offer an indicator that many British Columbians have their finances in order.
