Portland DA, Oregon AG to jointly investigate Delgado shooting April 29 2021 The family of the homeless man shot by Portland police had called for the appointment of a special prosecutor. Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt and Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum announced on Thursday that their offices will jointly investigate the Portland police shooting death of Robert Douglas Delgado. In the announcement, Schmidt and Rosenblum said they recognize the importance of always maintaining actual and perceived prosecutorial legitimacy and fairness. Delgado's family had called for an independent prosecutor to be assigned to the case. Delgado was killed on April 16 in Lents Park by Portland Police Officer Zachary DeLong, an eight-year veteran of the bureau assigned to East Precinct. Police recovered a replica gun. Delgado's family said he was homeless and had struggled with mental health and addiction issues.
