Funding sources include the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs State Home Construction Grant Program, which contributed $40.9 million, and the state of Michigan, which covered the remaining $22 million. The new home off of Monroe Avenue sits on the same property as the original Home for Veterans. The two buildings are next to each other. Due to the immense cost of repairs and other renovations to bring it up to regulatory standard, it was cheaper to construct an entirely new building.
