PETA says 30,500 chickens were denied food and water for 25 hours at Nebraska farm Updated: 1:42 PM CDT Apr 12, 2021 KETV Staff Report Share Updated: 1:42 PM CDT Apr 12, 2021 KETV Staff Report People for the Protection of Animals issued a call to action Monday, claiming that 30,500 chickens were treated inhumanely at a Nebraska farm.According to PETA, a U.S. Department of Agriculture report shows the chickens were left overnight without food or water at Lincoln Premium Poultry near Fremont. The slaughterhouse exclusively supplies Washington-based Costco stores. More than 1,500 of the birds were found dead the next day as a result.An FSIS agent concluded that “the prolonged time being held … without access to food and water, in crowded conditions, led to the” birds’ deaths.PETA sent a letter to Dodge County Attorney Paul J. Vaughan requesting a criminal probe and applicable charges under Nebraska’s livestock neglect law. “These reports reveal a horror show of birds dying of thirst, hunger, and exposure on trucks; drowning in scalding-hot water and languishing under piles of bodies,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch.
