The Mi Air Charge wireless charger will charge smartphones or accessories over the air, meaning users won't have to connect their smartphones to a wire, nor require placing it on a wireless charging dock in order to charge wirelessly. The Mi Air Charge achieves over the air charging by emitting millimeter waves through beamforming, and a smartphone or a receiving device using a receiving antenna array converts those wave signals into electrical energy using a rectifier circuit. Currently, the Mi Air Charge is capable of delivering only 5W power to a single device over a couple of meters of distance, but Xiaomi claims that its capabilities will increase over time.
