"The recent damage to the south end of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf should leave little doubt in anyone’s mind that the era of global warming is upon us," writes Jon Bombaci in a Guest Commentary. "As someone who’s spent the lion’s share of a lifetime working to maintain and improve our Wharf, it is desperately hard to see yet another round of winter storms pummel our Wharf while precious time needed to construct fortifications that would protect against building losses and the tens of millions of dollars in grant funding that could pay for those improvements are washing away with the broken pilings."
