Updated Jan. 7, 2021 8:36 pm ET Simon & Schuster decided to drop the publication of a forthcoming book by Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley following what the book publisher called the “deadly insurrection” that took place at the Capitol Wednesday. Sen. Hawley’s book, “The Tyranny of Big Tech,” had been scheduled to go on sale this June. In a statement Thursday, the publisher, a unit of ViacomCBS Inc., VIAC -3.65% said: “We did not come to this decision lightly. As a publisher it will always be our mission to amplify a variety of voices and viewpoints: at the same time we take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom.”
