More than a month of what seems like nonstop swell in California has meant plenty of us have hopped in the car looking for waves. Recently, with a new pulse (a big one) on our collective radar, I knew I had to get out of Los Angeles. Now, this all-too-familiar hunch can be devastating at times. Where to go? When to go? What if you drive somewhere and get skunked, or second guess your first choice and that place ends up firing? Fear of missing out is a real thing and so I have one resource I decided to put to use for this swell: a friend who is an actual swell forecaster, Mike Durand.
