Jersey Shore motel owner fights plan to turn property into parking lot
Updated Mar 16, 2021;
The owner of a Point Pleasant Beach motel is fighting plans by the borough to acquire his property through eminent domain and turn it into a parking lot.
Borough Council plans to introduce an ordinance Tuesday night to negotiate acquisition of the Amethyst Beach Motel, located a few blocks from the community’s beach and boardwalk. The 1 1/2-acre property sits at the corner of Arnold and Baltimore avenues next to a large municipal parking lot.
It includes the 40-room motel — which has been in the Fernicola family since 1962 and has been a motel since 1948 — as well as a separate house that the family rents out and motel parking.
