The prosecutor at the helm of the state's case against Derek Chauvin, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, was born and raised in Detroit. Ellison was a boy during the civil unrest in Detroit in the 1960s. As a student, he found his voice as a columnist for Wayne State University's newspaper.
