Kentucky breaks single-month record for coronavirus deaths
Mary Ramsey, Louisville Courier Journal
With almost a week left in January, Kentucky set a record for the most coronavirus-related deaths in a month. With the fatalities reported Sunday and Monday, the state has reported 798 deaths this month, more than the then-record 754 deaths reported in December.
The state reported 39 coronavirus-related deaths and 1,268 new COVID-19 cases Monday as Kentucky's positivity rate fell below 10% for the first time in 2021, Gov. Andy Beshear announced. That's the lowest number of cases the state has reported in a day in four weeks.
