On saturday we saw a rare and wide ranging exchange between him and reporters. Trump defending his mental stability, Standing Firm on his border wall and even opening the door with the leader of north korea for talks who he has called little rocketman. It was extraordinary. Well dive deeply into all the news from the president coming up. But we want to start with a developing story this morning at one of americas biggest airports. There are long lines and angry crowds at new yorks Kennedy Airport right now. Its sunday morning. The airport is still struggling to catch up after the so called bomb cyclone snowstorm on thursday. Jfk forced to reject some International Flights. Some from germany. Passengers have been stranded for days. Many of them furious. Some sleeping on the ground including this person who was sleeping on a heating vent. You gotta stay warm. I guess. The infuriating images dont stop there. Look at the sea of unclaimed luggage. The person who posted this shot says, theres no staff or information anywhere. Lets get to Erielle Reshef at kennedy with much more. Good morning. Reporter hey, paula and dan. The airport is still slammed this morning, but trying to get back to normal. Over the past few days passengers so frustrated some have started using the hashtag jfk chaos. This morning, a turbulent travel experience for passengers as new yorks jfk airport struggles with widespread cancellations and delays. Some likelily crawford stranded for days. I have been suck since friday morning at 8 00 a. M. Reporter thursdays snowstorm and the brutal deep freeze blamed for a major backlog. Grounding flights and leaving all gates occupied. We have to return to frankfurt because jfk wont accept us today. Reporter at least 12 International Flights diverted or forced to turn around. On several planes, the log jam turning into hours of waiting on the tarmac. Six hours on the plane. Reporter according to the passenger protections, the tarmac delays have a hard time limit of three hours except in specific cases regarding safety, security, and air traffic controlrelated reasons. The management of jfk knew they were becoming overwhelmed, why werent the planes diverted earlier . Its just dangerous to have people waiting so long. Reporter after two hours on the tarmac, airlines have to provide adequate food and water. As well as working lavatories and any medical treatment. The airlines could risk fines from the government for not complying. The department of transportation telling abc news its monitoring long tarmac delays at jfk and will make a decision on monday whether or not to take action. Real questions need to be asked about where were the contingency plans . Why did the contingency plans fail . Why was jfk not able to deal with the cascading failures as the storm went on . Reporter inside jfk, passengers arriving facing massive baggage delays. The luggage piling up. We were on the plane for four hours which was longer than the flight itself. Then we had to wait another three or four hours for our actual bags to come in. Reporter and this close call making matters worse. A China Southern Airlines Plane and a Kuwait Airways flight colliding on the run way. Its like the hunger games over here. We are each fighting for ourselves trying to get the one last couple seats. Reporter those disruptions hampering travel for some celebrities. Actress Catherine Zetajones posting that her flight was canceled on the way to tonight Golden Globes ceremony. The Port Authority saying most people should be able to get on flights today. Of course, check with your carrier. Dan . Paula . I hope the hunger games vibe subsides. Erielle, thank you. Thank you. Now to politics. A flurry of headlines emanating out of camp david where President Trump spoke to reporters. Among the many major story line it is fact the president felt compelled to depend his mental stability. We have team coverage. Martha raddatz in south korea. George stephanopoulos standing by in studio. Were going to begin at the white house and abcs david wright. David, good morning to you. Reporter good morning, paula and dan. Fire and fury. That continues to be the president s reaction to the book, not just the title. The president launched into a tweet storm. He even lambasted the author and his book at an impromptu news conference. Thank you very much. Its great to have you at camp david. That is very special place. Reporter on one of the coldest days of the year, President Trump was boiling mad about the new book by journalist Michael Wolff and its disparaging look at trumps first year in office. I consider it a work of fiction. I think its a disgrace that someone is able to have something, do Something Like that. The libel laws are weak in the country. If they were strong, it would be very helpful. You wouldnt have things like that happen, where you can say whatever comes to your head. Reporter the president took particular issue with the assertion that trumps own colleagues view him as mentally unstable. Actually throughout my life many two greatest assets have been mental stability and being like really smart trump tweeted. I went from very successful businessman to top tv star, to president of the United States on my first try. I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius and a very stable genius at that. I went to the best colleges or college. I went to a i had a situation where i was an kpem lent student. Came out and made billions and billions of dollars. Reporter the president insisted he never sat down for an interview with wolff and blamed his former chief and blamed his former chief strategist steve bannon for allowing wolff into the west wing. I guess sloppy steve brought him in the white house quite a bit. Thats one of those things, i guess thats why sloppy steve is look for a job. Reporter the president also down played the ongoing special investigation by special counsel robert mueller. Everything i have done has been 100 proper. Reporter once again, insisting there was no collusion between his campaign and the russians. I guess the collusion now is dead. Everyone found that after a year of study, theres been absolutely no collusion. Theres been no collusion between us and the russians. Reporter the president went on to say that the russia investigation is bad for the country. That it makes the country look foolish. Hes hoping its going to wrap up soon. That may be wishful thinking. Paula and dan . Wide ranging topics. There at camp david. The president saying hes willing to negotiate with democrats on daca. Theres a big caveat, right . Reporter thats right. He says hell negotiate with them on daca, but that his precondition is he wants money for his border wall. They have asked for 18 billion in the first go round. The democrats have already said thats a nonstarter. Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of young people brought here as children by their families their fate hang in the balance. David wright, thank you very much. Another major topic the president addressed at camp david. The standoff with north korea. Just days ago, trump taunted kim jongun saying he, trump, has the Bigger Nuclear button. Now the president says hes open to talks. He adds that kim jongun knows hes not messing around. Abcs chief global correspondent mard rtha raddatz in south korea with the very latest on talks involving next months winter games. Good morning, martha. Reporter good morning, dan and paula. Were just miles from the north korean border. You can see those militarytype bunkers behind me. The talks will take place along that border just days from now. With just two days left until north and south korea sit down to discuss the norths participation in the olympic games, President Trump giving his blessing. If something can happen and something can come out of those talks, that would be a great thing for all of humanity. Reporter is meeting President Trump from camp david says is a result of his tough talk. If i werent involved, they wouldnt be talking about olympics right now. He knows im not messing around. Reporter despite trumps threats, taunts, and show of force, kim jongun is close to perfecting a nucleartipped missile that could potentially hit the u. S. Trump has said no talks with american negotiators unless the north agrees to end its Nuclear Program. He now says hes willing to talk to kim. I always believe in talking. Reporter there was no one we talked to in south korea who didnt support talks. The fear of war here is constant. The artillery is easily seen from the side of the road. All guns pointing north. The barbed wire, the shelters, the barriers designed to crash on the roadway if north korea so soldiers storm south. But for the moment, says this farmer, there is hope tuesdays dialogue will lead to more. Translator hopefully, if the International Politics gets better, we want to live in peace. Reporter despite optimism about the talks and what President Trump is saying there remains concern about what happens next. Dan and paula . All right, martha raddatz, reporting from the region. We want to bring in chief anchor George Stephanopoulos. Hes going to be hosting this week a little later this morning. Lets pig it up right there with north korea. Good morning guys. Good morning to you, george. The president told reporters hes open to having talks with kim jongun. They would come with conditions. He knows kim jongun should know that he is not messing around. Though he didnt spell out what the conditions were. It does seem to be some what of a turn around to where the president and his team has been before. They have required north korea to say they will give up their Nuclear Program before. We seem to be in a new phase. Its probably led by the fact that south korea wants to talk to north korea and reduce tensions before the Winter Olympics next month. A significant decision to put off south koreanu. S. Military exercises until after the olympics. There does appear to be some kind of reduction in tensions as we head into talks between south korea and north korea. Except on the president s twitter feed. We saw something extraordinary yesterday. The president of the United States feeling compelled to defend his own sanity in front of reporters and the nation. This has now become a partisan issue with some democrats in Congress Introducing legislation calling for a Mental Fitness test for the president. Do you think at the end of the day anybodys mind is going to be changed here . I dont think thats going to go anywhere any time fast. You have had several psychiatrists question whether or not the president is fit as well. Theres been a longstanding rule or precedent against having psychiatrists diagnose. The goldwater rule. The goldwater rule. This is extraordinary. The president saying hes a very stable genius. You have the Michael Wolff book, which has several people from the president s inner circle, including his own soninlaw, questioning if he has the capacity to handle the job. That question is front and center right now. Its been revealed by this. I dont think it will go away. Its not been only partisan, either. Remember you have people like bob corker, the republican senator from tennessee, who has questioned the president s capacity for the job in the past. Senator lindsey graham, republican, now an ally of the president called him a kook. Lots of questions raised and the president s own inner circle. Its not like were on the verge of the cabinet invoking the 25th amendment. Not even close. Not anywhere close to that right now, no. George i think we have time for one more. We know the price tag of the wall is reportedly 18 billion. The president says hes not going to extend daca unless democrats agree to the wall. So whats the likelihood that any of this gets done . And the clock is ticking. The Government Shutdown is approaching on january 19th. The democrats say they want daca included in any bill to keep open the government. I think the big question right now is, is a compromise possible with some kind of Border Security beefup that the president can call a wall and the democrats will say is not a wall . I dont know the answer to that question right now, but i think that is what is at the heart of these negotiations. Its art of the deal time. Thank you, george. Thank you. George has a big show coming up this sunday morning. Hell go one on one with u. S. Ambassador to the u. N. Nikki haley and senators sanders and cotton. Plus the powerhouse roundtable breaks down the fallout over the blockbuster book on the Trump White House and the president s defense of his fitness to serve. Its all coming up on this week with george. Thank you, george. Lets send things to Ron Claiborne with a look at the news headlines. Good morning to you, ron. Good morning, paula faris. And dan harris. Ron claiborne. Breaking news from sweden. Were hearing reports of an explosion outside of a subway station in the capital city of stockholm. Police say a man was killed picking up an object from the ground that then exploded. The subway station and area around it have been blocked off. Police say the explosion was not terrorism related. There is a winner in saturday nights Powerball Lottery drawing. One. A single Winning Ticket purchased in new hampshire. The jackpot estimated at 559. 7 million. Thats more than half a billion bucks. That Winning Ticket, matching all six numbers. 12, 29, 30, 33, 61, with a powerball of 26. It was sold at Reeds Ferry Market in merrimack. Thats Reeds Ferry Market. Im not going to touch that one. In what is it, merrimack . Did we say that . Several Million Dollar winners in connecticut, new jersey, sourt South Carolina and texas. Why are you telling me . Maybe you bought one. I didnt. I should have. And in pennsylvania. A philadelphia firefighter was killed. He died in the line of duty in a house fire. 11year veteran Matt Letourneau was trapped under debris in the burning home for a half an hour before his fellow Fire Fighters could get to him. The philadelphia fire commissioner issuing a statement saying, quote, our hearts are breaking. Were without words. And astronaut john young, who walked on the moon and was the first Space Shuttle commander and the first person to fly into space six times has died. Nasa calling young the most experienced astronaut. The former navy captain retired in 2004. He died from complications of pneumonia at the age of 87. And in cleveland, some diehard browns football fans, well, they celebrated the teams perfectly imperfect 016 season by staging a protest parade. An estimated 3,000 people braving minus 7 degree weather on saturday. They tried. They marched with signs and uniform. Their message . They dont like the browns management. They have not given up on the team and their players. Also, from football Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota making nfl playoff history by throwing a touchdown pass to himself. Check him out. Impossible. Third and goal. Mariota. He races to the left. There he comes. Not going to get to the end zone. Throws a pass, knocked down by darrelle revis. He caught the ball himself. Check it out. Revis knocks it back to mariota diving into the end zone for a td. Actually, that made a difference. The final score, Tennessee Titans, 22, chiefs, 21. Heck of a play. Trade that man to the browns. Come on. Not gonna happen. A universal system of justice here. Theyll get a high draft pick. Maybe theyll get a good quarterback. Browns would take anybody at this point. They have some rebuilding to do. They really too. Thank you. I love the sign in the crowd that says, they tried. Better to try and fail than fail to try. Charitable fan. Lets check the weather, rob marciano. Speaking of football, hes in atlanta at the merz benz stadium where the two top teams in College Football will face off tomorrow for the championship game. Hey, rob, good morning. Good morning, guys. Weve been heavy on weather the past week and a half. Now its time for sports and weather. As you mentioned, were inside mercedesbenz stadium in atlanta.
