Im kate larson in sacramento, where a Police Officer was shot and killed on duty yesterday. Tonight, her department granl wa graduated dozens was honored tonight as her department graduated a new plas of recruits. The bay area native was shot and killed last night while responding to a Domestic Violence call in North Sacramento. Kate larson was at the ceremony and joins us live from sacramento. Kate . Reporter the Graduation Ceremony took place here at the Memorial Auditorium in downtown sacramento. Of course, it took on a completely new meaning, because it took place just 24 hours after officer o sullivan shot just three miles from here. 56 new hi graduated Police Officers, smiling, shaking hands with new uniforms and badges, proudly pinned on by family members. But those shiny new badges are koefred by a black band. These new recruits are thinking of their colleague, officer tara osullivan, shot and kill in the North Sacramento on wednesday night. Tarra is surely with us here tonight. Reporter officer osullivan was 26 years old, originally from the bay area. Six months ago, she graduated from this same academy. Sacramento police chief daniel hahn told me he knew her well. I dont think theres a person on this earth that would say she wasnt a perfect Police Officer. Reporter officer tom is a new graduate who trained with officer osullivan. She knew how to communicate and think on her feet. Reporter his father still supports his son as he begins his career. He wants to make a commu difference. I told him just be safe. Reporter the chief told me he saw officer osullivan a week ago. He said that she showed up on her own and ranned uphill for five miles with the recruits, just to show her support, because thats the kind of oficer that she was. They have a fallen officer right now. But you know what . They have to have officers going out on the street again today.
