Announcer now news to build a better bay area from abc7. A terrifying Home Invasion with a shocking twist. Mountain view police say it was an attempt by the landlord to evict a family. Abc7 News Reporter Amanda Dell Castillo is live at Police Headquarters with new details on this. Amanda. Reporter dan, ama, police say a rental dispute between a landlord and tenant led to a terrifying staged Home Invasion, and they say the landlord even reached tout her friends to help in the push. In the end, scare tactics led to the arrest of five people. They tried to kick down the door. Reporter you could see signs of monday nights mayhem here. Damage to a front door on rock street. The landlord 50yearold was frustrated over late rent payment and wanted the family gone. That landlord plus four individuals showed up to the home with the intention of forcibly removing the family from the home. Reporter the family refused to leave. Police say the group of five seen here took their efforts to a criminal level that someone in the crew cut power to the familys unit, and in the dark suspect steven tried using a knife to break open the door. Using these methods to try and have somebody leave a home unfortunately this is not the route to take. Somebody could have seriously gotten injured. Reporter the family escaped to rengstorff avenue unharmed. Steve chandler with the Mountain View Tenants Coalition says the incident is surprising for a number of reasons and in his experience rental disputes usually involve corporate landlords. I get the impression like smaller ma and pau landlords, they care about their tenants. Obviously this is an exception. Reporter the landlord and her crew are facing charges from robbery, conspiracy, assault with a Deadly Weapon and unlawfully shutting off power to a home. The family was in the home on tuesday but declined to speak on camera. I hope they can find another safe place to live. Apparently safer than this one. Reporter police katie nelson says this is the First Time Since shes been with a department that steps were taken like this to evict someone from their home. New developments to report on the spirit fire in marin county. 73yearold henry walker of petaluma has been arrested on suspicion of causing that fire. It broke out about 4 30 on the ridge behind spirit rock, triggering an evacuation warning for about an hour. The fire is 60 could be tand, 16 acres. Firefighters will stay through the night. An Airport Shuttle bus was carjacked from the International Terminal at s. F. O. Today. Heres that story and other headlines tonight. A representative for Shuttle Company sky park says passengers were getting on a bus when a man walked up and ordered everyone out. It started at the International Arrivals area. The shuttle bus was later recovered on ash by avenue in berkeley. Fortunately no one was injured. A chase came to a violent end in oakland when a car that was driving recklessly rammed a c. H. P. Unit trying to block it on interstate 80 near highway 24. An officer fired at least one shot, but it didnt hit the driver. The suspect was eventually arrested, but traffic was backed up for hours. The man accused of attacking a woman outside a San Francisco condo will not face charges in a second crime. The Public Defenders Office says Austin James Vincent was misidentified as the suspect in an assault against a woman and her friends in february. Another big story in the headlines involves a former google star, Anthony Lewandowski is a pioneer in selfdriving technology. Tonight hes charged in a 33 count indictment with stealing trade secrets from google and giving them to uber. Anthony, anything to say . Did you take the 14,000 files at all . He was freed after his parents and a Business Partner posted 2 million bail, but the judge ordered him to wear an ankle monitor. Prosecutors say hes a flight risk because of his dual french and american citizenship. At a news conference, the u. S. Attorney presented details of the indictment. A forensic investigation revealed that on or about december 11th, 2015, levendowski download today his computer approximately 14,000 google files. The indictment alleges that the files include drawings for proprietary Circuit Boards and designs for the lydar technology that help selfdriving cars to see where theyre going. His attorney fiercely defended his client. Anthony is innocent of these charges. He never stole or attempted to steal anything. Period. The government has it dead wrong. And as abc7 News Reporter liz kreutz reports, they now need your help. Reporter it started with a phone call Debbie Penrose got from a friend. I need some big help. What is it, a dog or two . No, 57. Reporter when debbie showed up to a ranch, there werent 57 dogs. There were almost 100 of all different breeds along with seven horses. Describe the conditions of some of the dogs that you saw. Ticks, fleas. The food bowls were full of algae. It was awful, it was dirty. Reporter debbie immediately n knew it was puppy mill. The breeder died and the relative who claimed the estate found it. I immediately went to social media and i made a post and kind of reached out to my rescue community. Reporter the post showed dozens of times Animal Rescue across the state showed up to help. He has one eye. Reporter one of those rescues is wonder dog rescue in San Francisco. Rieder is one of the 16 dogs they took in. The dogs we are rescuing had five, six, seven, eight, maybe double digit amounts of litters. One of her nipple is distended down 8 inches. Its so sad. Reporter the dogs are now in foster homes and will soon be up for adoption. If there is anything good that came from what happened, debbie says its this. On the peninsula, a case of card skimming is under investigation at the chevron gas station in wood side. San mateo county sheriffs deputy say an employee found three suspected skimming devices yesterday afternoon at the gas pumps. The employee wasnt sure how long theyd been there. Skimming devices are used to steal credit and debit card information. A warning for parents tonight about a popular childrens water bottle, contigo has issued a voluntary recall of 6 million kids cleanable water bottles. Officials say the silicone spout can detach and pose a choking hazard for children. The recall applies only to bottles that have a black color spout base and spout cover. They were sold at costco, target and walmart. Thankfully no injuries have been reported at this point. Developing news in the atlantic, Tropical Storm dorian is just hours away from hitting puerto rico. People there stocked up on supplies like water and canned goods today. The National Hurricane center says dorian is expected to become a hurricane and could cause lifethreatening conditions. The storm is expected to hit the bahamas on thursday, then florida this weekend. All right. We want to get a complete look on the weather now. Also newly Tropical Storm aaron expected to move north, northeast ward. Dorian will bring rain and swells to puerto rico. As we head toward the next two days, then inching closer to florida, right now the exact projection of what area of florida will get hit is unclear, but if you have weekend plans for labor day weekend, sunday night could be a category 1 hurricane hitting the florida coast line. Same general vicinity, well be seeing more thunderstorms as we head towards tomorrow, and that is a concern because there is a possibility of dry lightning, fire weather watch, and red flag warnings up for much of the state. As we take a look at live doppler 7 here locally, we do have the fog. We have a stronger delta breeze going, and thats going to help to drive those temperatures down. Today those temperatures did drop a few degrees, but you may not have noticed because it was muggy earlier in the day. Right now it has cooled nicely.
