Developing news out of the south bay, a child has been hit and killed by a train in santa clara. The accident happened just after 4 00 yesterday afternoon along the Union Pacific tracks in the area of lafayette street and laurel wood road not far from highway 101. Abc 7 News Reporter luz pena has more. Reporter the boy is younger than 15 years old. As to how the boy was able to mick his way on to the tracks is unclear. We can see Santa Clara Police officers along the Union Pacific tracks, the train that hit and killed the boy was a passenger train operated by amtrak. Amtrak police are conducting a joint investigation. Its unclear as to how the boy was able to access this area of the tracks. Lets hear from the captain. We received the 911 call of a young male juvenile walking near the train tracks in the area of lafayette street over the 101 overcrossing. As our officers were responding to that call, we received a subsequent phone call informing us that the train had struck the male juvenile. Upon arrival we did find the young male juvenile deceased. Reporter even though the age of the boy is still unclone, Santa Clara Police said there is no evidence that this was a death by suicide, they are ruling it as an accident. With he did get confirmation from police that the boys family was contacted after this incident. In santa clara, abc 7 news. Reporter investigators say the fire likely started in the back of this bar and spread to the sushi restaurant ex door. We went from just having fire in the back to having both attics fully involved and the fire wanting to push out into this building and this building. I opened our back door and i saw a wall of flames coming between our building and the building next to me. Reporter Michael Mallory escaped the fire with just the clothes on his back and a pair of sandals, he was later allowed back into his place to grab valuables and found this, extensive smoke, fire and water damage.
