A woman screaming. The woman they came to rescue said she was very concerned about the child who was inside, but the child was found ssing. Patrons at a gas station in the town of cambria recognze the vehicle from the amber alert and intervened. San jose police are grateful that the public got involved. This is Sergeant Enrique garcia. They detained him until police got there and took him into custody and the girl is safe. Reporter the 2yearold girl, bethanie carraza, was apparently taken from this home in san jose shortly after 10 00 p. M. Sunday. The mother was found stabbed by neighbors after they heard screaming. My roommates were saying that she was yelling help, help, he is going to kill he. And then from there one of my roommates peeked from the window, saw her hopping over the fence right there. Reporter they and paramedics found the mother slumped over the trunk of torres parked car. She remains in Critical Condition but stable. With the child in custody and the mother hospitalized, its suspected the mother will be turned over to Child Protective Services until an appropriate next of kin can be located and the background checked. The process can take days. At next door solutions, a Nonprofit Organization that supports victims of domestic abuse, a major concern is what trauma the child may have suffered from the mothers stabbing. What is the affect on this child to have witnessed Something Like that, if the child witnessed the physical assault on the mother. Those are all unknowns. Thats part of what our local system tries to do. The Domestic Violence agencies are here for the victim. Neighbors say theyre happy that the child was found quickly by people made aware of the situation by the amber alert. Im thankful that they found the little girl and that they arrested the person who did the crime. There are clearly two elements of luck involved in the story. The fact that the public connected the dots on the amber alert and recognized the vehicle. Also the fact that the father of the girl may apparently left the car keys locked inside the car at the gas station. That gave Police Plenty of time to arrive on the scene and find the girl safe. Improvement that she hopes to achieve by calling on the City Department with the board of supervisors to commit every spare dollar towards homelessness, mental as well as people struggling with Substance Use disorder. Those will be our priority, because we want to make sure that we change what we know people are frustrated over. A lot of the frustration that is coming from Business Owners who kofk the sf chamber of commerce, they feel like the city is not doing enough. Weve been following the progress of a controversial homeless shelter in San Francisco along the embarcadero. Phil matier reports the Navigation Center is expected to open this week. The shelter near the bay bridge will house up to 200 people. Neighbors who have fought against the Navigation Center argue it will bring more drugs and crime to that area. Police say theyre setting up a twoblock safety zone around the center to keep loiterers, homeless encampments and drug use outside of the zone. The homeless can now sleep in the sidewalk or the public park now that the Supreme Court is refusing to hear a case in idaho that case would have made it a crime to camp and sleep in public places. Last year the 9th Circuit Court of appeals in San Francisco said that idaho case was cruel and unusual punishment when the homeless have no place to go. Reporter aft after a year and a half of negotiations failed, thousands of Kaiser Mental Health professionals are taking to the picket line, demanding Better Health care for patients. Teenagers who are struggling with depression, trauma, serious anxiety should not have to wait three to five weeks in between appointments to get care. Those on strike are demanding kaiser hire more staff to ease their current work load, which would allow for the Quality Health care skieser is promising. We still have about one clinician to every 3,000 kaiser members. Kristen seeingle is a Mental Health therapist in richmond. She says both sides have made progress, such as improving the ratio of new to return patients. They put in so many loopholes in our contract negotiations that they wouldnt even fulfill that until three, four years from now. The status quo around Mental Health is broken. State senator scott winer was among those who broke in support of the strike. Kaiser officials dismissed the claims being made. We think its irresponsible. Kaiser Senior Vice President ron groper admits he hasnt been directly involved in the negotiations, but he says the problem is part of a national Mental Health crisis, and this will be best resolved at the bargaining table. He highlights kaisers recent investments. Weve invested 500 million in additional staffing. I know that weve put another 500 million n into the budget for next year.
