San jose police now investigating a pair of unrelated crashes, one involving a man who drove right into a crowd of diners. Abc 7 News Reporter chris nguyen has the story. Reporter this video shows the aftermath of what San Jose Police are calling a tragic accident in which a 69yearold man plowed into diners gathered for dim sum on saturday afternoon. Right now all eindications talking to witnesses is he thought he was using his brake but accelerated. Reporter the driver crashed into this Outdoor Dining space operated by the dynasty seafood chinese restaurant. Eight people taken to the hospital. Two remain in critical condition. At last check, its still unclear whether police say the driver was suffering from a medical emergency. The driver stayed there. Hes cooperating with the investigation. Obviously we have some things we still need to put together. Reporter this afternoon abc 7 news learned that the restaurant had not applied for a permit for the program which provides city support and approval for proper setup. Theres no guarantee that a prior review would have prevented this incident from happening, but city officials are urging Restaurant Owners to play by the rules. The registration process is very, very easy. And then well work with you directly, work with the businesses directly to make sure those activations are as safe as possible. Reporter just hours after the Outdoor Dining crash at the mall, another driver hit a food cart and killed a man at a nearby shopping center. Police are asking the public to treat shes highpedestrian parking lots as they would when driving through an active school zone. In a recent survey of 1,600 Small Business owners, 90 said that outdoor space is whats kept them from closing permanently. Reporter far east cafe in San Franciscos chinatown has benefitted from the temporary curbside dining structure that they are allowed to put up only on weekends. Now they are asking the city for a grant to build a more permanent one so that they can operate outside seven days a week. Recently with the weather and everything, it brings up a lot of business coming back to chinatown now. Reporter the city is putting up 1. 6 million in grant funds to help businesses like his build those outdoor shared spaces. Local nonprofits are helping Small Businesses apply for these grants. With the shared spaces opportunity and now that the citys offering us a grant, which allows a lot of the restaurant heres, hey, we can expand our business outside. In San Francisco, Leeann Melendez, abc 7 news. A protest is planned this evening over a Deadly Police shooting in San Francisco. Of a man who allegedly used a knife in an attempted carjacking. Police identified the man who was killed as 21yearold cesar vargas of fairfield. He was shot and killed saturday night after leading police on a chase through the city. Investigators say vargas crashed his vehicle at market and goff and took off running. He was shot by at least one officer a short distance away and died at the scene. In the north bay, the glass fire is now 95 contained. 67,484 acres have burned. Most evacuation orders have been lifted but there is a chance the north bay could see some Public Safety power shutoffs this week because of warmer weather and higher winds. Just 57, morgan made his way on to baseballs biggest stage. He didnt just make it to the show, he left his indelible hall of fame stamp on it. Oaklands nate oliver knew morgan well and played against him in the 19760s and 70s. He was an exciting individual. He had all skills. He could run, field, hit, he could hit with power. Consumer reports has a few tips you might want to hear. Fogged up glasses, ear irritation and even acne. These are just some of the annoyances that can come with wearing a mask. Wearing masks is essential to slowing the spread of covid19. But that doesnt mean you have to put up with some of the annoyances that can come from wearing them. There are some simple solutions. If you wear glasses or sunglasses and are constantly fogging up, a mask with a wire sewn in at the top is your best bet. Pinch the top of your mask so that it fits the shape of your nose. Next, tighten the sides for a snug fit. You can also apply an antifogging solution to your lens or try wearing your glasses on top of your mask. Are you suffering from mask acne . When you wear your mask for a long period of time, you sweat, which can cause bacteria to build up. That can lead to acne. First, make sure your face and your mask are both clean before heading out.
