In case the weather takes a turn for the worst, county public works officials are setting up equipment. They put up warning signs around recent burn areas and they also have cameras they can monitor remotely at all times. Experts say could bring as much as a years worth of rain for some areas in the next few days. The Deputy Director of the National Hurricane center says that could be what sets this storm apart from anything california has ever seen before. The rain is going to be the story. It is the biggest threat. I know the wind component or the novelty of a rare event like this is interesting. If you really think heavy rain, that will be the best thing you can do is preparing for the storm. We are looking at wide swaths of three to six inches of rain with some areas elevated or enhanced by topography possibly having 10 inches of rainfall. More importantly, the rainfall rates in a tropical system like this are much greater or faster than what you are used to seeing in a typical rainy pattern during the winter season. It is currently a category strong category four with winds around 130 miles per hour, just 240 miles from the southern tip of baja california. Tomorrow we will start to see it move closer up to the United States border. But by sunday morning it will drop to a Tropical Storm level. Winds around 70 miles per hour. It will have a huge impact on Southern California through sunday and monday. Notice monday it starts to sweep east rather west im sorry. East of the bay area. A Contra Costa County deputys car crushed. Witnesses say the deputies chased the truck along eastbound 580 overnight. The chase ended on highway 24 at macarthur boulevard when both cars crashed. Chp says multiple suspects are in custody. The deputy was taken to the hospital. Developing in maui, crews searched 60 of the disaster area left by the wildfires. The death toll from the lahaina fires is now at 114. Overnight, Hawaii Governor josh green said the number is expected to increase as the search continues. There are nearly 500 searchandrescue workers and 40 cadaver dogs combing the degree. Animal shelters prepared a warm welcome for dozens of cats and dogs from maui. They are opening space for pets being rescued in the aftermath of the fires. Tara campbell was at the hayward airport when the for the first arrivals. Tara fresh of a flight, 40 rescue pets set to take refuge in bay area shelters. We have been working on this with a coalition of bay area shelters for about a week. Tara cats, dogs, puppies and kittens landing at the hayward airport friday night. Our goal was to move the animals that had already been in shelters or in foster homes at the time of the fires in lahaina. Tara making way in maui for whats expected to be an influx of lost and integer and injured pets in the wake of the wildfires. We are moving them heres the have a better chance of getting adopted, and also so the Animal Welfare folks that are working in maui can start to adjust their programs and retool their programs to help with longerterm recovery issues. Tara and finding space for these new faces has been a challenge. We had a manifest of animals and we had to figure out how to place them with shelters in the bay area, because the reality is all the shelters are already full. Tara that is where you can help out. As an animal is made available it will go automatically on our website. If theyre interested in the maui dogs, start looking on monday. It will take a few days. We want them to decompress. Tara carrie wants people to know the adoption fee for these little ones will go towards helping in maui. Also doing something up out of. I have been at the shelter for 20 years. Hurricane hilary is a strong category level four. It is going to be tracking to the north. By the time it makes landfall it will decrease in strength below hurricane level. Down to 70 miles per hour. It is going to bring really Copious Amounts of rain to Southern California over the next couple of days. By the time it sweeps past the bay area its already going to be a tropical depression.
