Yesterday, feinsteins body lay in state at city hall last night, some people were there later than they were even supposed to be open to see the late senators casket. The public viewing was supposed to stop at seven, but the line was so long that the feinstein family and the city decided to extend it to allow as many people as possible to see her. In a move to end encampments, the city of San Francisco is calling on the Supreme Court for help. City officials, including mayor london breed, are now asking the court to immediately overturn an appellate ruling made in 2022. That ruling requires local governments to provide shelter for the entire unhoused population before they can clear encampments. According to a filing, City Attorney david eshoos office says the city has spent the last fiscal year to house the homeless. But it would need an additional 1. 45 billion to shelter everyone who is homeless. Officials call that plan, quote, simply unrealistic. City of San Francisco is trying to speed up the process of getting people off of the streets and into housing by changing documentation requirements through the department of homelessness and supportive housing. Unhoused residents once needed to show a drivers license or a Social Security card to get into a temporary shelter. But Officials Say they were often not able to provide those documents. So this new program would skip that step and get them into housing as soon as possible. This was the natural next step in what we call presumptive eligibility. Were going to presume you are going to meet the needs and eligibility of this housing based on everything we know about you. And well worry about the paperwork later. Once people are in the units , they have 90 days to get id and order to continue to get help. Still no settlement on a contract deal this morning for tens of thousands of Kaiser Permanente workers. And this afternoon it is going to get hot no matter where you live. Even along the coast, were going into the low 80s and low 90s from Half Moon Bay to santa cruz, 88in the city and 91 in oakland would mark the hottest temperature since last october. So its been about a year since its been that warm in those locations. Lots of 90s for the north bay. The inland east bay and the south bay under sunny skies. So the three day forecast, we keep that heat advisory for tomorrow. The heat begins to ease on saturday, but we are much cooler sunday and into early next week. Well show you those numbers on the seven day reggie in about nine minutes. Thanks, drew. How much longer, how much more itll cost to bring bart all the way into the city of san jose . The bar owner says nothing from the business was stolen, leading him to believe that the vandalism was a hate crime. Clearly, when i opened the door after the smashed windows, the alarm started going off, which means that they didnt even try to enter the premises. So it is very much targeted. But i have not seen this in oakland , but i have heard of, you know, lgbtq people being targeted across the bay area. The owner added the bar will remain open for business while Police Investigate it. Another landmark in the east bay targeted by vandals is the standing. Once again. Were talking about the peaker pole, the special marker on mission peak high above fremont. Its now back in place. A crew just reinstalled it in an act which authorities call a premeditated, premeditated act of vandalism. Someone with a tool sawed it off in Early September for that vandal has not been found. Most bay area residents think the region is on the wrong track. Thats according to the results of the annual Silicon Valley poll. The poll is based on responses from about 1900 adults around the bay area. 78 say they think the quality of life here is getting worse. That number is even greater for parents with kids at home. This years poll asks residents for their thoughts on three subjects public transit, homelessness and the struggles downtown town. Those are subjects related to all three of the bay areas biggest cities. For the ones that are not visiting, we said, why . Whats the reason . Quality of life and homelessness. Many people in the bay area and across california are reporting a creepy sight falling from the sky. I go out to the back deck drinking a cup of coffee and i look at the moon. And in the in in the moon theres a strand of white going across it. And im thinking, that is weird. Well its nature and its a spider web. And its october, so i guess people cant take it because its spooky season. Even though this happens every year, every single year you all so dont be surprised if you see this happening. I havent seen that in such a long time, but its really cool to see. So people have been seeing things like this in san jose and in stockton, monterey, modesto. And there is a biological reason behind it. Insect, insect experts say that these are spider web clumps that are woven in a balloon shape. It happens every year across the country. And they call it ballooning. What it is, is there are these little spider lanes, baby spiders. And when the conditions are right, they will release a bunch of silk and they will fly off to new locations. And thats that on that. Experts say theres nothing to be alarmed about. There are about 50,000 odd spider species on the planet. And this is just part of life. Spiders exist, yall. And they make and they make babies and webs. In other news, water is wet. A San Francisco favorite. We should go tomorrow. Thats a good friday. Yeah. Lets make a plan. Okay. The plan is me getting them right. Yeah, right. Yeah yeah, thats usually well eat them. Support you as you walk out. Okay, good. The weathers going to be nice for it. Thats true. For a little walk outside, i like to frequent the one on baker street in. Its still busy. Its just not as busy as the one on polk street. But they have this, like, great lit up sign outside that people take pictures in front of. Its like perfect for social media and stuff like that. Maybe we could all go and get a photo there. Hey i just want the donut. You just want the donut. Why do i not think thats such a that was so aspirational thing. Its going to be me getting the donut. Thank you, reggie. Running, sweating, carrying, sweating. Its like pouring sweat. There will be no picture. No. No picture. Maybe after eating one. Oh, yeah. No all right. Lets talk about fleet week because the air shows get underway here tomorrow in the city. So we will start out warm temperatures mid 80s on friday. I mean, it is going to be hot for the air show on saturday. Its a little bit cooler. Still fine flying weather. And then sunday well add a few clouds to the sky and dramatically cooler right around 69, 70 degrees. By sunday afternoon. Today, its just a hot day no matter where you live. We have a heat advisory in effect around the bay shoreline and in the Santa Cruz Mountains as well into the 90s today for the south bay, moderate air quality. We could see a couple of 100 degree readings in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Well keep our eyes on that. Look at the coast Half Moon Bay, pacifica, low to mid 80s. You know, when its that warm there, it is going to be warm across the entire region. 96 in redwood city, 90 in mountain view. Well hit about 92 in san mateo downtown today, 88. Little relief even along the coast. The sunset and richmond districts will go into the mid 80s. 84 with a lot of sunshine. Today its hot in the north bay. They were furious after mccarthy worked out a short term deal with democrats to keep the government funded. The earliest decision could be made to expel congressman gaetz is tuesday. Thats when House Republicans return for a Conference Meeting to hear from House Speaker candidates. Gaetz just got schooled by aoc and others. He was totally manipulated into doing this. I think there needs to be accountability. There needs to be consequences. I tend to believe that our our dirty laundry should remain in our room, our laundry room. And so i think the conference has to have a serious conversation about that and about what what accountability there will be.
