Today San Francisco does say that final farewell to dianne feinstein, city hall will be the backdrop for this afternoons Memorial Service for the political trailblazer. Yesterday, feinsteins body lay in state at city hall last night, some people were there later than they were even supposed to be open to see the late senators casket. The public viewing was supposed to stop at seven, but the line was so long that the feinstein family and the city decided to extend it to allow as many people as possible to see her. We were there when the final person got inside before feinsteins body was finally escorted out around 815 last night. This morning, abc seven News Reporter lena howland is live at city hall with details about todays Memorial Service. Lena the public is no longer able to attend this. Hey, reggie. Thats right. And in the same place where her political career first began, this is where the Memorial Service will be held for senator dianne feinstein, just outside of San Francisco city hall. And despite quite a bit of back and forth this week, organizers decided to close this event off to the public, making it by invitation only. Now we are expecting to see several other high profile faces to be here in attendance. Some of those include Vice PresidentKamala Harris and californias congressional delegation, including feinsteins appointed replacement, senator laphonza butler. This comes after her public viewing inside of city hall yesterday when thousands came to pay their respects to the late senator and citys first female mayor with a line often stretching around the block. While feinstein will be remembered for all that she gave to the city, current mayor, london breed, says shes happy now the city can give back to her. Im proud of the city for coming together in this way and to celebrate her legacy and if i think if she were here and to see this, it would it would make it would warm her heart because of todays service. In a move to end encampments, the city of San Francisco is calling on the Supreme Court for help. City officials, including mayor london breed, are now asking the court to immediately overturn an appellate ruling made in 2022. That ruling requires local governments to provide shelter for the entire unhoused population before they can clear encampments. According to a filing, City Attorney david eshoos office says the city has spent the last fiscal year to house the homeless. But it would need an additional 1. 45 billion to shelter everyone who is homeless. Officials call that plan, quote, simply unrealistic. City of San Francisco is trying to speed up the process of getting people off of the streets and into housing by changing documentation requirements through the department of homelessness and supportive housing. Unhoused residents once needed to show a drivers license or a Social Security card to get into a temporary shelter. But Officials Say they were often not able to provide those documents. So this new program would skip that step and get them into housing as soon as possible. This was the natural next step in what we call presumptive eligibility. Were going to presume you are going to meet the needs and eligibility of this housing based on everything we know about you. And well worry about the paperwork later. The bar owner says nothing from the business was stolen, leading him to believe that the vandalism was a hate crime. Clearly, when i opened the door after the smashed windows, the alarm started going off, which means that they didnt even try to enter the premises. So it is very much targeted. But i have not seen this in oakland , but i have heard of, you know, lgbtq people being targeted across the bay area. The owner added the bar will remain open for business while Police Investigate it. Another landmark in the east bay targeted by vandals is the standing. Once again. I go out to the back deck drinking a cup of coffee and i look at the moon. And in the in in the moon theres a strand of white going across it. And im thinking, that is weird. Well its nature and its a spider web. And its october, so i guess people cant take it because its spooky season. Even though this happens every year, every single year you all so dont be surprised if you see this happening. I havent seen that in such a long time, but its really cool to see. So people have been seeing things like this in san jose and in stockton, monterey, modesto. And there is a biological reason behind it. Insect, insect experts say that these are spider web clumps that are woven in a balloon shape. It happens every year across the country. And they call it ballooning. What it is, is there are these little spider lanes, baby spiders. And when the conditions are right, they will release a bunch of silk and they will fly off to new locations. And thats that on that. Experts say theres nothing to be alarmed about. There are about 50,000 odd spider species on the planet. And this is just part of life. Spiders exist, yall. And they make and they make babies and webs. In other news, water is wet. A San Francisco favorite. We should go tomorrow. Thats a good friday. Yeah. Lets make a plan. Okay.
