He spoke with a police chief about this earlier today. J. R dan, the man who was shot and killed by police, 31 year old san juan yang had a knife in his hand when he was shot. But officers say they were responding to reports that he was armed with a gun. This is video recorded by an officers body Camera Security guards at the consulate had previously deployed pepper spray in his direction. You can see that was impacting yang at the time. He has one arm over his eyes. His other hand has a knife in it. Yang can be seen waving it back and forth through the air and is eventually shot. We have stopped the video before that moment, but during a town hall meeting, i asked the chief if the department would review their policy, saying it appears as though yang cant see anything as hes waving the knife. This is the chiefs response. We evaluate every case from a tactical perspective to see what we can learn from this to evolve and get better at. If we ever have this incident again and this will be no exception. What i will say, though, in fairness, we dont really know what this person could see or not see. And we at that point, the officers remember the call was that the person had a gun and in fairness to the situation, an we dont know what he could or couldnt see. But as abc7 News Reporter liz pena reports, one of those suspects has a history with sfpd and even received a huge settlement from the city just last year. Four months ago, fathers day on San Franciscos embarcadero turned into a gun battle ground. Bystanders hid behind cars and ran for cover as passengers inside two moving vehicles shot at each other. People was screaming like it was shooting outside. So you closed the doors in the back of the store . Yeah so close it to avoid, like, getting like those shooters inside. The sounds and images are still fresh for workers on pier 39 and 14 on where many hid as bullets rang out. It was scary because then, you know, you didnt know if they got caught. You didnt know if they were still here. Dashcam video captured the moment a white vehicle struck a ten Year Old Girl and a black suv. A 16 year old both survived. And today, San Francisco police chief bill scott announced a breakthrough in this case. We have arrested the people responsible on that night, sfpd detained the two suspects of the black suv, both shot during the incident. One of them was treated for life threatening injuries and later released pending investigation on wednesday of this week, exactly four months since the shooting, three suspects from the white vehicle were arrested. Richard tobias, Xavier Pittman and a male juvenile arrest warrants were issued for all three of these individuals. Richard tuiasosopo was already in custody at the time of this arrest. Both Xavier Pittman and the juvenile were arrested yesterday morning. Turns out pittman one 190,000 in a settlement with the city after he was shot and injured by an Undercover Police officer back in 2021. He even got an apology from chief scott. Im deeply sorry that mr. Pittman was shot. I also asked San Francisco police chief bill scott if all the suspects involved in the shooting have been arrested. Steph, these hacks continue to get more and more sophisticated and an israeli based Cyber Security firm says hundreds of Cyber Attacks are infiltrating government and News Agencies in the middle east, tampering with Emergency Alert systems to hacking devices inside peoples homes to terrorize them. Were told some of these groups doing this recently carried out Cyber Attacks right here in the bay area as the conflict between israel and hamas continues to escalate. Theres a different type of battleground looming cyber warfare. Gil messing is the chief of staff for check point software, a Cybersecurity Firm thats based in tel aviv. He says hes tracking more than 40 groups conducting attacks that disrupted more than 80 israeli websites for both government and News Agencies. People are amplifying information quite often misinformation or disinformation that is consistent with their point of view. And so theres a lot of people trying to wade through everything they see on social media to figure out what is true from hacks to data breaches. One of the largest affecting a university where messing says hackers leaked 250,000 records of students and staff over the weekend, making a series of threats about the stolen data on messaging app telegram saying, quote, we got them all with a knife emoji. The threats have already evolved into phishing scams where hackers are even impersonating donation efforts. There are bad actors that look to take advantage of it, you know, via creating Fake Charities and fake donation sites, that sort of stuff, to try to do, you know, take advantage of the situation thats going on for their own monetary gain. To add to that, according to messing, the same coalition of hackers that shut down american airports a year ago also claim responsibility for attacking the websites of Critical Infrastructure in israel, including the israeli electric grid and the siren alert service.
