Bay area got out to enjoy it. What you can expect for mothers day weekend. Dont zoom in too close to these beach photos. Thats all i have to say. Really . Yes good morning. On this thursday, may 10th. Beautiful. It was gorgeous. People were tanning. They were enjoying the sun. It was the warmest day since last october and will continue to hang on to that heat today. Heres a live look outside from the exploratorium camera. We are clear here. We have the faintest marine layer right now around Half Moon Bay, a little bit around the Golden Gate Bridge, and that will lead to a little bit of Coastal Cooling today, but we are going to warm up inland even hotter than yesterday temperatures. Right now we dont have that offshore wind, so were not as warm as we were yesterday. Were in the 40s and mid 50s right now. And again, that wind. Remember yesterday morning it was gusting 20 to 40mph. That is now gone. And we have light winds to begin our friday. So the day looks like this. It is bright. We have a lot of sunshine on the way. But the coast will actually be a bit cooler today thanks to our marine layer having a bigger influence. But around the bay shoreline and inland we are hot in the 80s and low 90s, returning inland, well take a closer look at these highs and preview the weekend. Coming up in eight minutes. Lets say hi to sue and see you soon. Good morning drew and good morning everyone. Friday light is our hope and so far so good. San mateo bridge is moving at the limit. A little bit of fog on the golden gate. Its not the entire span. I just came across a bit ago and its not on the waldo grade either. So just across the toll plaza area, beginning your Early Morning drive out of the central valley, you can see our early commuters, and we do have first reports of a problem on the peninsula south 101 near san antonio, two cars, middle lane. Will check more in just a few. Thank you. Sue. This morning President Biden is back in the bay area. Hes here for a series of Campaign Events that are part of a west coast trip. Abc seven News Reporter ryan curry live for us on the peninsula. Ryan the president is likely to be greeted by protesters. Yeah thats right reggie good morning there will be a demonstration from propalestinian activists who are calling on the president to stop supplying military aid to israel. The president himself did say recently that he would consider stopping all shipments to israel. If they do proceed with a full invasion of rafah, the Southern City in gaza. So expect that to happen later on this morning. The president arrived last night at moffett field, then boarded a helicopter to San Francisco. He is here to raise money for his reelection campaign. The last time he was in the bay area, he was doing the same thing. We spoke with Political Science experts who tell us why he comes to this region, and they told us this area is full of very wealthy people who can help fund elections. Its a cliche, but we are the nations piggy back for these campaigns. Theres a lot of people here with a lot of money and a lot of interest in who wins these elections. Campaign donations are a way of showing how well youre doing. Its almost like people are voting with their dollars. The white house has not disclosed the location of either fundraiser today, but it is believed one is in Portola Valley and the other is in the south bay. The first lady was also in the bay area yesterday visiting marin county. She is heading down to Southern California today. The protesters say they plan to create a human billboard along the road of where the donors and the president will be on their way to. So expect to see that later on this morning once they all start to arrive. But for now, reporting live in Portola Valley. Ryan curry, abc seven news. Ryan, thank you. And its official Oakland International airport has a new name despite major opposition, including a lawsuit from San Francisco, the port of oakland, which is in charge of the airport, voted on moving forward with the name change. They released this new logo. Its now called San Francisco bay Oakland International airport. The board says its about location, location, location. They conducted research. It shows a name change could attract more passengers to oakland by letting them know the city is another gateway to the bay area, and a name change can certainly do that. That brings the knowledge for people past the mississippi to really understand where oakland sits in the greater bay area, and also internationally, really of understanding from people from around the world of where oakland is in this greater bay area. But it seems the next steps may play out in court. The San Francisco City Attorneys Office issued this statement to abc seven news, saying it is disappointing that oakland chose to ignore our multiple offers to collaborate on an alternative name and avoid litigation. We have strong federal Trademark Infringement claims against oakland, and they have given us no choice but to move forward with next steps in our lawsuit in the south bay, barts long awaited extension into downtown san jose is getting a big financial boost. Half 1 billion from the fedel government to get this project done. Bart Silicon Valley extension is expected to cost more than 12. 7 billion. Phase two will take trains from the Berryessa Transit Center in North San Jose through downtown, then up to santa clara. Vta eeing construction. The agencys general manager says the announcement is significant for how the feds view this project. Its the first time theyve kicked in money for it. It is a nationally important project. It is one of the most important projects in this budget, is the second highest project with an allocation. The project has faced escalating costs and delays, and this six mile, four station line isnt expected to open until 2037. A big change is coming to the way pgandes can bill its customers. The California Public Utilities Commission voted unanimously to approve a flat monthly fee of 24. 15 that will be in addition to what they pay for their actual usage. Commissioners also approved an electricity rate decrease of 5 to 0. 07 per kilowatt hour. The changes will be rolled out between the end of next year and the beginning of 2026. Commissioners say the reduction could be an incentive for people to switch to electric vehicles and appliances. So for someone who electrifies their home and vehicle, they would save an average of up to 44 a month compared to the status quo. And the reason customers are financially better off is because the new billing structure will reduce the Price Per Unit of electricity by roughly 5 to 0. 07 per kilowatt hour. A Consumer Advocacy Organization called turn, short for the utility reform network, supports the changes, saying they promote stability, especially in areas with more extreme weather. But its members say more needs to be done to lower rates. Donald trump will be back in a manhattan courtroom today in trial over his criminal hush money case. Now, prosecutors have not said who their next witness will be after wrapping up dramatic testimony from adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Now, abc News Reporter Andrew Dymburt tells us, it was so graphic at times. Trumps defense team asked the judge to declare a mistrial. It was a tense crossexamination as Stormy Daniels wrapped up her nearly seven hours on the stand, questioned about her alleged sexual encounter with former President Trump at a California Hotel in 2006, an encounter trump denies. The defense questioned the veracity of daniels story, including her claims that she became lightheaded and felt the room spin after seeing trump in his underwear. Another thing that was just totally not believable was like, and i went to the bathroom and our dinner and when i came out of the bathroom, he was there just in boxers and a t shirt and i almost fainted. And susan necklace said, youve made 200 movies and a man in his 60s, and the boxers and a t shirt that made you faint, shes like, well, i just wasnt expecting it. It didnt come off as credible. But daniels, defiant on the stand when trumps lawyer asked, you have a lot of experience of making phony stories about sex appear to be real, daniels fired back. The sex in the films is very real. Just like what happened to me in that room. She added that if she were to fictionalize her encounter with trump, i would have written it to be a lot better. The defense once again moved for a mistrial, claiming daniels graphic account was extremely prejudicial testimony, but the judge refused , telling trumps lawyers you deny that there was ever a sexual encounter between Stormy Daniels and the defendant. Your denial puts the jury in a position to decide who they believe. Daniels, late yesterday called trump out directly, writing on social media real men respond to testimony by being sworn in and taking the stand in court. Oh wait, never mind. It comes as we learn that one of the potential prosecution witnesses, karen mcdougal, will not be taking the stand. Mcdougal, a former playboy playmate, claims she also had an affair with trump and that trumps team allegedly paid the National Enquirer to buy the rights to her story to keep it a secret. The only key witness remaining for the prosecution, trumps former fixer michael cohen, who has claimed that trump reimbursed him for the 130,000 payment made to contain daniels story before the 2016 election. The prosecution, looking to make the case that trump falsified business records. But trump insists all payments to cohen were for legal services, and his lawyers are expected to pounce on the fact that cohen previously admitted to lying to congress. Also on the stand yesterday, trumps former executive assistant who handled checks, she testified trump was closely involved in reviewing checks and financial details. Shell be back on the stand today. Michael cohen is expected to testify by next week. Andrew dymburt, abc news, new york, 509. We had a warm day yesterday. We got into the 80s across much of the region today. It gets even hotter inland right now. Temperatures in san jose with a live look outside. Were at 59 degrees. We do not have that offshore wind like we had yesterday. So humidity is a lot higher this morning compared to this time yesterday. And we will find those winds remaining pretty light throughout the entire day. So the big headline today is that well actually get even hotter inland. Today well find our first 90 degree readings of the year. But the coast is actually going to see a little bit of a cooldown today thanks to just a minor influence of an onshore wind. Look at how gorgeous gorgeous it was in the san jose Municipal Rose Garden in the north bay. The warm weather means a mix of fun and preparation. 250 seasonal cal fire crews are back on duty as they prepare for the start of fire season. Cal fire also has firefighting aircraft stationed at its Sonoma County air base. Hotter temperatures and windy conditions can dry out vegetation, which of course leads to a higher fire danger. Abc seven news was along the Russian River yesterday as people took advantage of the warmer weather to enjoy the water that looks fun. Visitors say theyre happy the rainfall has finally slowed. Green is great. You know we do need it, but, i know its getting a little bit tired of the rain. For a while i was like, we im missing the sun, so its nice to sort of be out. Officials are reminding you, if youre going out on the water this weekend to stay safe and to wear that life jacket, we knew raging waters would be reopening in san jose this summer, and now we have learned it will have a new name. As the resident. South bay resident. People are not happy in the south bay on social media. Theyve taken up an issue with the name kali bunga. We had a little bit of relief last weekend because we had that rainfall. Now because of the warm weather, the sunshine, trees and grasses are medium to high, so it just seems like its been a really bad allergy season for a lot of us. And it looks like this will continue at least through the upcoming weekend. Future tracker showing you as we head towards 10 a. M. Pretty mild 60s and 70s on the board around lunchtime.
