One person died after a fire in oakland. We have video now from the scene just coming into our news room. Where you see them taking some people to the hospital for safety. The fire broke out near the harrison street off ramp at 580. A lot of Emergency Personnel at the scene there. Firefighters had to go to the top of the building to make sure there werent hot spots coming through the attic. You can see the photos where the fire blaze zed through the window. The fire was actually contained to that unit. The rest of the people inside that building have been forced from their home. A crew on the way to the scene to bring you the very latest. We are following breaking news in San Francisco. Thats where three people are in the hospital after an Early Morning fire to their home. This happened at the home next to mclaren park. Firefighters arrived to find that home fully engulfed. One of the victims, right now, is in extremely critical condition. So far, no word on what caused that fire. New this morning, a chaotic scene playing out on several bay area freeways. An overnight chase leads officers through the east bay. Bob redell is live now. This is video of him speeding through emeryville. This is a chase that started late last night in the Central Valley when the san joakim county office tried to make a stop. The honda suv was stolen and the driver possibly wanted in a robbery. As you can see, he was having none of that. He led deputies and officers with chp on a chase west on 580, down 80 into San Francisco. Once in the city, we are talking around 12 2012 30 this morning. Officers deployed spike strips and forced the driver to come to a stop by the u. P. S. Building on 16th street. Cps arrested the driver. He had a dog alongside of him. They took the dog to spca. S. Territory. Here is the latest information we have on the hurricane. It made land fall around 3 15 a. M. Our time. It struck as a category 4 hurricane. Nbc news reports winds are blowing at winds above 155 miles per hour. We are getting lots of video into our news room as maria slams into puerto rico. It is showing whether i happening winds in the streets of san juan. Gadi schwartz is there where people are sheltering, but he says the roof is starting to leak. The families are having to move cots. He videoed people in a prayer circle as the storm slammed that shelter. You can see them joining hands in prayer. It is a huge hurricane and still very destructive as a category 4 and now wind speeds of 150 miles an hour. Just had a measured wind gust at the harbor there of 109 miles an hour. So, this is going to cause a lot of damage. Over the next couple days, it continues on the westnorthwest track, just north of the dominican republic, moving over the turks and caicos and could cause more damage as they tur continue to rebuild after hurricane irma. As of now, it is not expected to hit the mainland of the u. S. This will be something that needs to be closely watched as we go into the weekend and early next week. This morning, as the damage is mounting, so is the death toll. Right now, it stands at 217 according to mexicos Civil Defense agency. At least 25 of those bodies have been recovered from a school where it is believed some children may be still trapped. A search continues for survivors. Mexico declared a state of d disaster. New this morning, a fire tore through a duplex in san jose. Two people are hurt and a dog is dead this morning. Kris sanchez is live at the scene with the damage left behind from the fire. Good morning to you, kris. Reporter yeah, the Fire Campaign here said at least two of the three people affected were asleep and woke up to the fire and forced to climb out the window for safety. As you said, the dog didnt make it. The firefighters on scene say the smoke was coming from the attic and at least one window when they got here and they quickly used a chainsaw to get the flames out. The residents watching from outside the home, well, they told firefighters they woke from sleep because of the sound of the fire. They woke up to the sound of fire and crackling and heavy smoke in the apartment at the time they woke up and they escaped through a bedroom window. Reporter the neighbor in the other duplex unit was also out of the home during the fire. Firefighters didnt say whether smoke detectors in either unit alerted the folks inside. To give you an idea of how fast life can change, this fire only burned about 15 minutes but it was long enough for two of those folks to suffer smoke inhilation and one of them a slight burn. They are getting checked out at the hospital. Many of their belongings are out here in front of their house. They have to deal with this when they feel better. They will get help from red cross. You see all the people that just gathered there. They are hoping. They dont know what they are going back to. The shelter itself continues to leak.
