From rome to San Francisco, the lawyer representing the bay area teenager accused of killing an w suranillance foo finnegan elder reportedly confessed to stabbing an officer, officer mario rega, 11 times. His friend, Gabriel Hjorth allegedly attacked regas partner. The two teenagers went to tamalpais high school. Theyve been in jail in italy since july 26th. So did they end the investigation too soon . A state legislator wants cal fire to reopen the case into the devastating tubbs fire in parts of santa rosa. This is prompted by new evidence weve uncovered by our Investigative Unit. State regulators are feeling the heat. Investigative reporter Jackson Vander becken has the story. Reporter this flash captured on Surveillance Video obtained by the Investigative Unit marks the exact moment that pg eayrom calistoga. Er fire tore through the hillside. They believe an private electrical system on the hillside for starting the second most destructive fire in state history. It leveled 5,000 structures and left 22 dead. But cal fires report does not account for how the fire could have started on that private hillside system because the flash would have been without power well before the fire was reported. That has state senator jerry hill urging cal fire to reopen its investigation. There is a private Property Owner now being held responsible for that fire, and if theyre not responsible, then we need to find out who actually is. Reporter and now there is new questions about the Public Utilities commissions investigation. In light of nbc bay areas review of pg e documents about the pole near where that flash occur. This is pg es tubbs fireor fer telling him that due to a pole should ,ion on the have been cleared but was not. Under state law, protective area around such poles must be cleared. Thats because of the fire danger triggered when their socalled expulsion fuses blow, says dan mulkey, an electrical engineer turned private consultant. They have a nice ball of fire when they separate. Reporter and that fireball expels bits of moulton metal on to surrounding brush. Unless you also clear around the pole where they are every year. Reporter pg e only recently cleared the brush around the base of this pole. State regulators say they hadnt heard what pg e told the judge and cal fire isnt commenting, citing litigation. And then there is this pg e letter from its top lawyer to cal fire officials last august. Recounting that one worker discarded the remains of two blown fuses from that pole days after the fire in accordance with pg es normal restoration practices that revelation came despite repeated warnings from regulators that pg e must preserve any fire evidence. But in a civil deposition last year, pg e worker Robert Villagomez told wildfire workers he didnt see value in keeping what was left of the fuses on the pole. I throw them away. Its kind of standard practice. Reporter while cpcu regulators say they havent found evidence of violations to date, they say if they do they will determine the appropriate course of action to be taken. And the puc needs to look at this regardless of what conclusions come after that as to the cause of the fire. Thats unrelated to the violations of that pole and that fuse and that lack of ground clearing. Reporter for its part, pg e reiterated that cal fire did not identify any violations of state law, Public Resources code fire. Jackson vander becken, nbc bay area news. Well stay on the story. Lets bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. You see were going see temperatures go down even more a little bit . I think pretty substantial decrease as we head through tomorrow in the next couple days. And were Still Holding on the chance of yes, maybe a few showers in that extended forecast. Lets take you into our microclimate weather, and well begin with the change in weather. Its all about this system thats developing right now. Thats pushing some of the hottest air we had most recently, even this past weekend. And its moving it off towards the east. And the way i see it right now, its going to be certainly interesting to watch. The next four days, it sits in the same spot, drops our t chane showers. Well get to those showers in a second. I want to get to whats at least happening right now as that storm develops. Its helping to kind of reinvigorate the fog. Its pretty thick at the coastline, and thats tranowin concord, also down to livermore. You can probably feel it. That nice breeze. May be able to open up your windows and help to cool that house down a little bit. So with it looking like this right now through tomorrow mornings commute, we do expect thick fog at the coastline. Also the bay and spotty drizzle as well. Just be ready for that. Temperatures will be in the low 60s for the trivalley and the peninsula, although the most sunshine we can expect will be down here for the south bay. Thickest fog, though, you want to watch out for would be in the east bay, San Francisco and the north bay with those temperatures beginning in the 50s to low 60s. Now i still think we have plenty of sunshine as we move through the day, at least by the afternoon tomorrow. And with that storm developing, well look at our temperatures. Were out of the 90s in the south bay. Back down to 79 in cupertino. 80 in san jose. Also a considerable cooldown for the east bay, which had plenty of mid90s. Lately down to 86 in concord, 85 in danville. Looking all good in oakland at 69 on the peninsula. Anywhere from 79 at palo alto to a chillier 62 in daly city. Ocean breeze in effect here in San Francisco with 61 in the marina and 56 across the mission. North bay had you up to 80 in novato. 79 in sonoma. And then up to 88 in ukiah. So what about that shower chance . Lets get a look at my extended forecast. San francisco, have you in the 60s over the next couple of days. Showers move close by on friday with a slight chance on saturday. Then well warm it up once we hit sunday, monday, and tuesday. Inland valley
