Folks may be planning to go to work today and see how the outages go. That may be the case. Well see how the morning progresses. There are no major problems getting toward the bay bridge but again the early backup shows coming off of the maze, a smooth drive through Contra Costa County, and from the north bay, both across the carquinez bridge and the golden gate bridge. No problems through the south bay or peninsula and disabled truck well talk about that counter commute, guys, coming up. Back to you. Thanks so much, mike. Back to the red flag warning set for later today in the extremely high fire danger, and noon, pg e will announce exact areas where they will shut off power later today. Pg e says the move just like two weeks ago will prevent downed power lines from starting fires. Impacted areas include parts of san mateo, napa, and sonoma counties but the south bay and east bay will not see shutoffs and that doesnt mean people should not stay on alert. Bob redell joins us live in walnut creek this morning, talking about some of the concerns out there. Bob . Reporter well, were talking about the red flag warnings that are pretty much throughout the bay area, laura, why firefighters are reminding people you want to have at least 30 feet of Defensible Space around your home especially if you live in wildland area like walnut creek. The National Weather service issued a red flag warning for here in Contra Costa County and every other county in the bay area, except for San Francisco. It starts again this afternoon, runs until tomorrow afternoon. The highest threat of wildfire will be in eastern coco county. The city of berkeley is so concerned about this years fire season, last week the city Council Passed a resolution to make fire safety a top priority, and you can understand why. Many homes there and other parts of the east bay hills are built so close together on steep terrain, surrounded by lots of vegetation. We saw what happened in 1991, when 25 people died and 3,000 homes burned, which is why again firefighters are pleading with homeowners to clear the brush from around your home. Sometim almost think were doomed, although thank goodness 36 years of living here, we havent been doomed yet, but its a lot of it is luck. Theres way too many trees, people dont want to trim trees as much as they should. It is tricky in the east bay hills because houses are built so close to each other. Its hard to meet the standard of 30 feet that is what people strive for. Reporter youll recall a couple of weeks ago the 50acre wildfire that burned in the hills behind a gated community not far from here in moraga, firefighters said it could have been disastrous if they didnt sop it in time. Police believe a vape pen could have caused that fire because one was found right where the fire started. Reporting live in walnut creek, bob redell, today in the bay. Thanks so much, bob. Meteorologist kari hall has been tracking this weather system all week, kind of warning us it was coming but you have an indepth look at whats happening. Well see our winds picking up today because of some High Pressure moving in. Its going to force our winds offshore, and then we are going to see our winds coming in especially for the north bay, starting a little bit earlier in the day. At noon were seeing clearlake and winters and napa seeing 15 to 35 Miles Per Hour. Its going to be even higher for some of the higher elevations, as you go up above 1,000 feet, so our mountains and hills will have some of the higher wind gusts, and then going into this evening, were still seeing the gustiest winds in the north bay, but then we start to see a little bit coming in to oakland, with winds at 7 30 tomorrow morning, at 31 Miles Per Hour in the oakland hills, as well as San Francisco, blowing off the shore, Half Moon Bay at about 25 to 30 Miles Per Hour. Then as we go into tomorrow evening, we start to see the wind shift and we also see conditions calming down. We have a pretty big window here of some very low humidity. This shows our hour by hour, and the humidity and percentage, the relative humidity, when it gets below 15 , even 20 , thats very dry air, and so you get a spark, very low humidity, and some high winds and any fires could spread very quickly, going into the next 24 to 28 hours, so this is the time frame were watching for this high fire danger, and well have more updates all throughout the day. Marcus and laura . Thanks so much, kari. Nbcbayarea. Com and our app is your source for the very latest on the possible outages. Well stream pg es noon power outage announcement on all of our digital platforms. Tomorrow well start the show early for you to get you ready with the day. The south bay is getting a major funding boost for Affordable Housing, from a voter approved bond, and from a major tech company. Today in the bays kris sanchez joins us live from san jose with one project that will add nearly 200 units, kris. Reporter hi there, marcus. Not much so look at now, just a chainlink fence but the open ar is soon going to be a development for folks in the low income scale in the city of san jose. Now the Santa Clara County voted to spend 33 million on two more developments, about half of the funds come from the housing bond that Santa Clara County voters passed a few years ago, so your tax dollars at work, and then about half come from the state housing and Community Development no place like home program. One development is here and the other at gallop and mesa. The county is on track with its control of creating 4800 units of housing by december of 2027. Im just as happy to have a low income Affordable Housing here as to have market rates. Reporter why . Because we need something on the site and we need people to have a place to live and t homeless need a place to live as well as anybody else. Reporter at least here we have neighbors showing some support. Yesterday facebook pledged to spend a billion dollars over the next ten years of san jose the social media giant says this will help develop 20,000 units of housing, they say will help teachers, nurses, First Responders live a little closer to where they work. Back in june, you might remember that google also pledged a billion dollars toward Affordable Housing, and helping with the homelessness crisis. In san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Right now its 5 09. We are under a microclimate weather alert. We are expecting a high fire danger today. It will be hot and dry in the hills, we could see gusts up to 60 Miles Per Hour, with winds peaking tonight through tomorrow morning. We do have red flag warnings across the bay area, and then the winds start to decrease on friday, but lets go through these temperatures for today, and all of our microclimates at 9 00, were mostly still in the 60s, anything outdoors you want to make sure you get it done or if youre clearing that Defensible Space around your house, try to get out there early in the day, before it heats up, and the winds increase. At noon were seeing already some mid 80s in napa, some upper 70s in san jose. Were headed into the upper 80s and even a few low 90s and then as we go into 7 00, were still going to have some gusty winds, and some very dry air, with these temperatures in the low 80s in concord. So well talk more about whats ahead, as w look at our east bay temperature trend, but mike, youre saying the traffic is taking a break on the peninsula. Taking a break and getting back to traffic and taking another break, as they clear the crews, finishing up their day. We just missed this backup, sorry, not crash, backup approaching willow where you see the lights on the overcrossing now, continued changes for the project adding the express lanes through the area. We see a smooth drive on the Speed Sensors around the bay but watch for the road crews as between now and 6 30 youll see them moving from the area. Moving from the roadway eastbound 580 that disabled big rig i was going to tell you about is gone as you approach greenville. Great news, counter commute and your commute westbound is not a problem. This commute getting toward the bay bridge look at the speeds, close to the limit, for all of your approaches including the top number the east shore freeway, you get toward the bay bridge looks, i want to get back to the live shot because we see things sorting themselves out for the typical pattern for the fastrak lanes and approach. 5 11. Still ahead on today in the bay a possible shakeup coming to one Contra Costa County, ahead at 5 25, the reason half of Richmond City council may need to step down. Tesla reports its profits today. Now, we care less about the profits and more about how much cash tesla has on hand, and how many cars it built. The ceo of service now in santa clara john donaho is leaving to become the ceo of nike. They liked john at service now and the stock moved lower on the bad news. Today is the day Mark Zuckerberg will return to congress, talking to the finance Services Committee ostensibly to talk about lib rah, facebooks new cryptocurrency but im going to make that bet that doesnt come up much because members of congress in both parties have all kinds of issues with facebook that have nothing to do as something so obscure as cryptocurren cryptocurrency. Also the financial Services Committee got really smart and direct to the point members, the chairwoman is californias maxine waters, shes really tough and new yorks alexandria owe casio cortez seeing here questioning michael cohen, turned out to be savvy and a prosecutorial questioner. Yesterday she asked twitter, hypothetically, if you were, say, a member of Congress Sitting on the financial Services Committee given five minutes to question Mark Zuckerberg, what would you ask . One of her twitter followers answered ask him, did the russians really pay for their election ads in rubles . Really . Really . Really . Repeat until timeexpires. I was talking earlier this week about existing home sales. We got the data and it shows a slowdown and you think that would be good news for buyers, but looking deep into the data, its not. A more reflection of the lack of homes out there for sale that low supply unfortunately keeps prices high. If you tip your Rideshare Driver a group of social scientistists foundenre more likely to tip than women, and the most likely time to get a tip for a driver is early Early Morning like 3 00 a. M. To 5 00 a. M. , which they attribute to people on expense accounts getting to the airport and people that are really late who are perhaps a bit more generous after their night of fun. After that men tip more than women thing, here is the possibly tacky side of it, the younger the driver, the woman driver, the more tips she will get from a man. We talked about this yesterday. We did. I always tip. I dont always tip. Sometimes you open up your uber app, remember that ride you took three weeks ago . I dont tip on those but im like i dont remember that. If they were helpful and did some things but if they drop me off, have a good trip. For the record, i dont use uber. Lyft. Okay, there you go. There you have it. 5 17, trending this morning, something you have to listen to, a classic car catastrophe. A former reporter with good day sacramento he was fired after getting a lot of criticism from jumping on top of classic cars, 1950s thunderbird and striking a silly pose. What was he doing . Reporter Angel Cardenas reporting live from sunday sacramento auto show jumped on the hood of the new suv, between that he dinged another car, classic tbird door. Look at that. According to Sacramento Bee kmax tv fired him. Those car owners those are expensive. And i mean theyre classics. Thats amazing. You cant just take it to the top, smooth that out for me. Going to rub it out, thats fine. If you dont own the car, dont jump on it. Oh my gosh. Theyre not going to let people in to do those anymore. That hurts for next year. Exactly. Ouch. Ouch. Not like its on tv, only it was. Exactly. Call his insurance adjuster. Switching gears for us. Is it ding weather, kari . Not so much. What is that . I have no idea. I have no idea. Sounded good at the time, right . Im not a meteorologist. Hopefully no dings going on out there. Here is a live look outside in palo alto looking at highway 101. As we are starting out this morning its clear, nice and quiet. Were going to have a nice start to the day, but then as the day goes along, it starts to heat up and were going into the upper 70s by early afternoon. We do have a red flag warning that will be in effect starting first in the north bay, beginning at noon, ending tomorrow at 4 00, and we could see some of those mountain gusts at 15 to 20 Miles Per Hour. Those are the sustained winds, actually the gusts could reach up to 60 Miles Per Hour in the valleys. Were looking at about 35mileperhour gusts. Then for the east bay this afternoon, it begins at 3 00, and ends tomorrow afternoon, some of those mountains in the east bay could get 30 to 40mileperhour winds, while the valleys will have more of about a 15 to 20mileperhour wind. For the santa cruz mountains, were going to see this red flag warning starting a little bit later at 7 00, and then we could here see winds mostly at about 10 to 20, gusting up to about 35 Miles Per Hour. Not only that, but were also going to have some very warm temperatures, reaching into the mid to upper 80s today. While this is well above normal, i dont think well set any records, a daily High Temperature record, but were going to be very close in some spots like concord, reaching 90 degrees. Up to 85 in redwood city. San francisco in the upper 70s, and the north bay reaching up to 93 in santa rosa, and napa. We have a high wind event were expecting todays well as tomorrow due to a strong offshore wind, as High Pressure builds just to our west, and then were going to see that moving away, but then a storm system moving in to the pachk northwe Pacific Northwest drops cooler temperatures and make the winds gust again going into sunday as well as monday. We have two possibly high wind events in the forecast for today, and then again on sunday, but a big change in our temperatures going way downh
