Hundreds of thousands waking up this morning in the dark after intense rains and powerful winds knocked out power. In queens, new york, a lightweight roof blown off this building and left dangling. All of a sudden, and i heard like a screech and a boom, a hard bang, so i was assuming it was a crash, and i come across the street. I see this hanging right here. So you know, it sounded like a hurricane. Reporter in the new york city suburbs, a young girl was left with broken bones after a tree suddenly snapped and fell on top of her while she was trick or treating in her new rochelle neighborhood. Upstate in buffalo, several people were rescued from their vehicle after getting trapped in a flooded viaduct. As we mentioned a dangerous new fire exploded near los angeles overnight, but there is some encouraging news. Historic winds that have fueled some of the flames are finally dying down. Reporter good morning, hoda, just as firefighters thought they had everything under control, this blaze breaks out in the hills of santo paulo. It is starting to die down, but right now it is all when protecting those homes. Overnight it prompted the evacuation of nearly 8,000 people. Hundreds of firefighters back on the front lines after a week relentless conditions. On both ends of the state crews attacking the flames on the ground and from the air dropping fire retar dant and water and trying to keep the flames from thousands of homes. And in the kincade fire, for one local group of firefighters, this was a chance ice for redemption. This week for 36 hours straight they worked to protect a community they were unable to save two years ago when the tubs fire burned down 3,000 houses including some of their own. We lost the whole area behind us. That was huge this time when this fire came through, everybody came, all hands on deck. Reporter for now their fire lines are holding, the winds finally subsiding. But what has created conditions so dangerous they have been given a new name from the National Weather service, extreme red flag warning. First an explosive combination of vegetation from the weather hurricane wind gusts and humidity, all that fuel growing under ageing electrical lines that can spark infernos in seconds.
