We just confirmed the details with san jose police. This all started when police tried to stop that car not far from here on capital expressway for a vehicle code violation. The car did not stop. Police say the driver sped off. An officer found the car, it had crashed into the front of this cash one store here at a strip mall. Now police say the driver took off running. The young woman who was also injured in the crash was taken to the hospital. Were told she was a passenger in the car. They have not yet found the driver of that car. What we are learning now is that the young lady who was injured, minor injuries. Nonlife threatening injuries. Again, they are still looking for the driver and, yes, indeed, this is a mess here. Prosecutors are expected to decide if they want to retry kaveh bayat, the exboyfriend of tiffany li who jurors acquitted last month. Prosecutors argue bayat had assisted li in murdering the father of her two children. Another man charged as an accomplice is waiting sentencing in a plea deal. A door dash driver believed to steal packages while on the job. Surveillance video backs up the claim the woman entered the building, delivered food, and was seen picking up packages on the way out the door. We spoke with the building manager who says this isnt the first time the tenants at the building have been targeted. The cameras are plainly visible. We even have past posters of package thieves. While the woman hasnt been identified, door dash says they know who she is and permanently deactivated her account. Oakland Council President kaplan is talking more about that idea she was floating to house Homeless People on a cruiseship at the port of oakland. The plan is reportedly getting some traction and may actually be one answer for a cruiseship that will otherwise soon be outdated because of new emissions standards. In a statement she says in part homelessness has been rising dramatically and causing substantial human suffering. We must respond to the magnitude of the crisis. Here are the top stories on today in the bay. We begin in san jose where police are still looking for the driver in a bizarre overnight crash that happened at a Check Cashing store. Within the last half hour we learned from police an officer tried to stop that same car around 1 00 this morning near capital expressway. But the driver took off and police decided not to pursue. Then a short time later the officer spotted the crash scene. While the driver ran off, a 15yearold passenger was still there on the scene. She was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. Statewide leaders have just made a move aimed at protecting homes ravaged by wildfires. 200,000 additional homeowners now cannot be dropped by their insurance companies. Its participate of a temporary ban on the practice. More than a million homes are now covered under the new law. But it only applies to people who live in or next to the perimeter of one of the 16 wildfires that burned in october. Alameda county is saying goodbye to flavored tobacco. Supervisors this week voted to stop the sale of flavored Tobacco Products though the ban only covers unincorporated areas of the county. It also prohibits the sale of Menthol Cigarettes. Supervisors say the ban will reduce the number of tobacco retailers in the county by half. The raiders time in oakland is essentially over, but the chronicle reports oakland and Alameda County will still feel the pain for some time when it comes to paying off that debt.
