It is 5 01 now and breaking news that were following this morning. Police on the peninsula searching for suspects that held up a safeway pharmacy and got away with a lot of drugs. Today in the bays thom jensen is live outside of the store. They hit at 1 00 this morning. Reporter that is right. Good morning. We have not got confirmation from police on this yet but we did talk to an employee that said several men were in the store at about 12 40 this morning and there was gunfire but no one was injured. And they got away with an unspecified amount of drugs. Again weve reached out to palo alto pd for confirmation on a number of detail this is morning, have not heard back. Of course still pretty early but were trying to get confirmation on a couple of things that were reported in the daily post this morning that the at least three of the thieves got away in a red chevy 2000 pickup. And that the glass was shot out inside of that pharmacy this morning by at least one of the gunman. Again we have not heard back from palo alto pd. Now on capitol hill lawmakers have made a decision about whether the president needs to get their okay before reacting to iran. President trump campaigning in ohio late last night. After the house of representatives voted that he must get their approval the current resolution is adopted. Reporter before taking further military action against iran. The judge in the case returned to the beth this morning. The mothers have launched a group called mom for housing. Arguing vacant homes could be used to house the homeless. Property owners say their sympathetic but call the women squatters and demanding the property back which they plan to convert into a shelter for troubled youth. A future skyscraper in San Francisco. Legislation is proposed by San Francisco assemblyman david chui to cap a state tax break for mortgages to the interest paid on home loans on the first 750,000. It would eliminate the deduction altogether on second homes. Assemblyman chui estimates it could bring in up to half a billion dollars per year to help the states homelessness crisis. It is electric. Students in milpitas will have a way to go green to and from school. A fleet of six all electric school buses expected to arrive today thanked to 2 million in grant money. The buses are capable of going 120 miles on a single charge. The low lying coastal areas may experience flooding over the next few days. King tides return starting today through sunday. Now when temperatures are this cold, and we have fog, we have to watch out that there may be some icing especially on the bridges and overpasses. Elsewhere, we have temperatures in the un in the upper 30s and low 40s, so in pleasant hill, only about 37 degrees. From the upper 30s to low 50s by noon. Well continue to warm up a few more degrees from there reaching up to 58 degrees in concord and in san jose. San francisco reaching 56 degrees. And ukiah expect a high of 53 degrees today. So this is our break before the next round of rain cox comes in. So we have the saturday storm and another one coming in on monday. So when this one arrives it will continue to weaken and only bring in some very light rain. In fact, the models are showing it falling apart early in the morning. And look at timeline. Were at 1 30 when the light rain starts to move in. And then as it quickly moves out around sunrise and Early Morning, were going to see a mix of sun and clouds. And then it pushes off toward the east. The afternoon is looking clear and of course it is perfect for the 49ers game weve been watching closely. Traveling to the sierra, today is the day to hit the road. In squaw valley and Alpine Meadows reaching 41 degrees and very mild. But as it cools off tomorrow and sunday well have light snow showers coming down. But it looks like with this next round of light rain for the bay area it will be light snow for the sierra and at South Lake Tahoe only about an inch, up to five inches for the upper elevations and spots like kingvale. But look at next week, big storms headed our way. So if you are able to get there and then watch the snowfall and stay, it is great. But you need to get back home before the next storm comes in after monday. And were going to see once again some more active weather throughout the forecast. It looks like visibility is improving a little bit but it is just cold this morning and that is going to be the main story as our teams start out in the 30s and low 40s as you head out of the door in concord, expect a clear sunrise and through the day our chilly start turns into a mild afternoon. Well talk about the rain coming in for the weekend and, mike, you found that dublin freeway too. You and i both. Because i was searching around. If we move the camera in a few feet, we can barely see a half or a quarter mile at times so that is a factor. Above the roadway, the cameras are at hooftop height but i believe 580 is fine. Around the boy wearing things at speed and definitely see the bay bridge toll plaza. A palo alto safeway remains closed at this hour after an Armed Robbery targeting the stores pharmacy. Police arent saying much about what happened but we did talk to a worker who told us there was gunfire. No ones with injured. The thieves did reportedly steal prescription drugs. The governor said he wants to hire 555 more firefighters for lowincome communities. Part of a 2 billion plan aimed at fighting fires and other disasters. Happening today, a Memorial Service is taking place for the oakland man killed while chasing after his stolen laptop. It was taken from him while just sitting at a coffee shop. Shuo zeng died on his 34th birthday which fell on new years eve. Last night a safety meeting was held. The meeting was packed with people listening to statistics on how robbery and car thefts are on the rise in the area. Im moving forward with with a policy just to say that for every police area there should remain at least one officer in the area. It is Getting National attention thought to mention our own investigative unit. Yesterday supervisors held a hearing to create an action plan. Public works and health staffers admitted the city needs more organization along with more trash cans. This morning, hundreds of People Living at a Mobile Home Park in san jose are getting a new lifeline. Facing possible eviction, the city is now stepping in to help make sure that the park remains a space for mobile homes. The company that owns the park is demanding people move out by august of 2022. The city council has not decided what will happen to that park. 5 36. Leaders in Sonoma County considering buying homes to help the homeless community. According to the press democrat. Two are in santa rosa, one in catatty. The move is expected to cost more than 3 million. The goal is to help house People Living in a homeless encampment along the joe riddell trail west of santa rosa. Last month the county announced they planned to spend up to 5 million to help those people. If you could imagine, a dedicated lane on the bay bridge solely for buses, youre not alone. The idea was tried once in the early 60s. Leaders dropped it a few months later. Now one lawmaker is considering reviving it. Assemblyman rob banta leading the charge. The staff researching the idea and getting hearty approval from the b. A. R. T. Director. Even mass transit was experimental in the 60s. And in venice as well. That is true. That chance of rain early tomorrow and sunday it will be up to about 55 degrees. And if your traveling hitting the road going to lake shasta, the forecast there will be offandon rain, temperatures reaching into the mid to upper 40s and then the rain changes over to snow early on sunday morning. Carmel valley also a great destination for the weekend with with a high today of 62 degrees. And it will turn cooler tomorrow as we get more clouds and some spotty showers. This will impact an estimated 2400 people. It is all due to proposition 64 which decriminalized cannabis use. Prosecutors are required to review all marijuana convictions by july 1st of this year. This is the next storm system that will be coming in and it will quickly move on by and well be weakening as it does so. Well have another storm system arriving on monday and that will bring you more rain. But as we look at the timeline, once again sunshine today and then in the overnight hours. 1 30 in the morning we see spotty rain moving in and then as we head toward sunrise that rain is moving into the south bay and east bay and then clearing out for the rest of the day.
